What happened at St. John's and Underhill?

why does the block association's voice have to come to this forum?
what is that going to accomplish
aside from satisfying everyone's curiosity?
no
that is way too passive
this forum has to go to the block associations.
there is no one way to remedy the issues facing this community
except by everyone doing their little piece
for some people that is picking up garbage,
for others it is calling 311 for noise complaints,
some people think the solution lies in better policing: so go to the precinct council meetings and figure out what you can do to help (is it getting more cops or improving community/police relations?)
some people think the lack of activities for kids needs to be addressed: again there are a multitude of ways to contribute
is it gangs?
is it guns?
is it drugs?
etc. etc. etc
the point is that there are many ways to get involved
not just here
(which i do think is one valuable piece of the puzzle)
but out there
it's not about wether or not this incident has been discussed already at a block association meeting
it's about going to the meetings and finding out what is being discussed,
what the concerns are
and what you can do to help
it is the only way to break down the them/us dynamic
(whether that is defined as black/white, rich/poor, homeowner/renter, newbie/old timer)
and create a stronger community
btw, found a great ceramic lamp base on park place btwn classon & franklin yesterday

Amen to that neene, I hope what you wrote can be understood by all. I swear I put (one of your ideas) in at least one of my replies.

Agreed. Those are all good suggestions and I think people on this board do some of those things. I think most people came here to understand what happened and why it is happening.

The conversation got hijacked and then we were being accused of "not knowing anything", causing panic and alarm unnecessarily or not "being involved in the neighborhood enough" by a few new posters using a mysterious, cryptic haiku.
Online discussion of community events is a valid method of neighborhood discussion an events and distributing information - so is calling the proper authorities to deal with issues.
But it can only work if people come here to share useful information and insight. -
opinions vs facts

and that means .... -
ex.
fact someone was shot.
opinion read some of the replies thoroughly from this topic. -
howdareu wrote: ex.
so the opinions are that someone didn't get shot? I'm totally fecking confused here (by this line of posts).
fact someone was shot.
opinion read some of the replies thoroughly from this topic. -
howdareu wrote: ex.
A for effort hdu. C- for structure: haiku should be three lines, with 5-7-5 syllables in the three lines, respectively.
fact someone was shot.

Edit for haiku rules:
Fact - someone was shot
Opinion - read thoroughly

Which, just in case you're not familiar with it, stands for "private messages." At the top of the page, it's between "profile" and "log out." -

wow. these last 3 pages were really informative.
i used to post on here under a different name, but gave up after one of the first good conversations i was involved in got trolled into oblivion.
for clarification: someone got shot outside my front door. i sign onto the most immediate form of communication that involves the most people (this message board) because... hey! i wonder why someone just got shot outside my apartment!
but the thread disintegrates into the same shit and no one really wants to have a conversation and everyone uses it as an excuse to bitch about everything they don't like about other people in the neighborhood. great. it's really funny how everything still seems to devolve into superficial differences like "old" and "new" and black and white and rich and poor even when we're using the one medium that flattens all of those variables. i give up. -
Hexatron, for what it's worth, not EVERY thread disintegrates and derails this way. But too many of them do.

I don't think it's fair to say that *no one* really wants to have a conversation, though; a lot of us do. I certainly share your frustration here. -
When all communication grinds to a halt on this forum, it truly is a
sad day. This is once again NOT an attack but, I wish howdareu would answer one question without all the cryptic comments. To bad, I would have love to discuss what's going on in the neighborhood, but I guess he doesn't care to talk constructively. The hood suffers again.

You cannot use logic and reason to talk someone out of a position that they did not use logic and reason to talk themselves in to.
please smite accordingly. -

Very Zen. I like that. I'll leave the "Smiting" to a higher power.

Well for an update..........The nice man is still in the hospital handcuffed to a bed. He said he doesnt have wireless internet access and theres no phone in his room for dial up. As soon as he gets arraigned and released he'll update us all on the real story.
-
He didnt say that stop confusing these people. Be nice.
-
The neighborhood doesn't want to suffer anymore than they already have.

howdareu wrote: The neighborhood doesn't want to suffer anymore than they already have.
suffer WHAT? you're making very little sense here. -
So basically what you are trying to say is that you were completely wrong? Your claim that the nice man wasn't arrested, turned out to be false? It's OK people make mistakes
-
I was right about everything I said and you were wrong again with your last reply. But like you said it's ok people make mistakes.
-
This back and forth has really gone on too long.
Howdareu, if you have nothing worthwhile to contribute then just go away. -
Mamacita wrote: This back and forth has really gone on too long.
Amen to that..this is borderline trolling and annoying as hell.....
Howdareu, if you have nothing worthwhile to contribute then just go away. -
How funny is that I am the only one to blame.

Maybe it's because you've not contributed anything positive to this topic.
Most of your words are Antagonistic and cryptic.
Sorry, Feel free to attack my comment, but I think a lot of people will agree with me.

Subject: Best Tiff Yet on DH:What Happened on St. John's & Underh
Seriously, the best bit of bickering ever, or at least in a very long time, on DH.
Let's see:
1. Black vs. white.
2. Who's lived here the longest contest.
3. Block association talk.
4. Mockery of sentence structure and punctuation.
5. I'm right, you're wrong.
6. Accusations of witholding thread-pertinent information.
Anything I've forgotten? You guys are the best! -

The man deserves a =D> for that.
So was there a big turnout at the Block Association meeting to talk about all of this? Does anyone actually know when it is? Maybe someone should encourage Mike Jones to get on the board, if he isn't already. -
Who is Mike Jones?
