I think you'd have a hard time finding someone here that thinks shootings are okay anywhere. However, these boards are neighborhood-specific, thus we discuss what is happening in OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.
Not all crime gets the same amount of attention, even in "OUR" neighborhood. The most vicious multiple murder/arson here (from back in 2006) got almost no notice when I posted about it recently. See http://brooklynian.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=37021 which was worthy of a response by one person besides me. -
Damn. I have no idea.

Subject: Take it from me
I joined this message baord just to answer/expand on what I read in someone's post. I have lived on St. John's for 26yrs and in the early 90's this was NOT a desirable neigborhood. Drugs and volience were a HUGE issue compared to now. So you hear a couple of gun shots on occassions and call the police, try hearing them every night or better yet early evening. I can understand why this may be alarming to neighbors who have not lived in the area for very long but what you see now can not compare to what I have experienced growing up. So you can call the police everytime you hear gun shots but it will not get the attention that you are looking for. They will send a car out to circle the block and that is about it. We are no longer one of the problem areas in Brooklyn remember, we are ONE OF THE MOST DESIRABLE AREAS TO LIVE and that is how they want to keep it. -
If we are asking specifically about last night, it was a domestic dispute at 315 St.John's place.

Sorry. I quickly read the thread title and answered w/out reading the last post!
Anyway, if you saw all the comotion last night, that was it. -
kick rocks!!!! wrote: For the people who have to move out because of economics, where will they move off to? East new york? It's not a pleasant thing to think about moving people out so that the neighborhood can become wall to wall middle class white folk.
Then again, I'm one of those people newly moving into these areas. I was pushed out of Manhattan because of THAT real estate market. The landlord I was renting from had owned his newly cooped apt a few years and was finally able to sell for a good bit of cash. I was priced out of LES and the only place where I could afford ($1200 mo) was Prospect Heights.
Gentrification again???
It's sad for all of us who have to shift ourselves around and commute even further to our jobs. But that's New York! -

Who is Mike Jones?
The fabled Black Ghost. He lives in our minds and and the oral history of this neighborhood. He is the only person who stood up to the guy who brandished a Plasma-K rifle with the 40-watt range. I saw him levitate once, but I can't write more about it. It was amazing.
Howdy, Stranger!
