Finding a Cleaning Person in Park Slope
Hi everyone, I'm a sometime reader/first-time poster wondering about how one finds a trustworthy person to clean their apartment, either for a one-time cleaning or a regular engagement.
I tried calling Miracle Maids, but they really put me off with their high fees, minimum hours, and ridiculous extra charges ($30 for cleaning supplies for one visit? $15 for a car service when they're right here in the neighborhood?). My friends in the neighborhood don't use a cleaning service, so I can't ask for their referrals.
Can anyone recommend a resource for finding someone (or even a tip about an individual person would be great)?
Thanks for listening.

We Can Do It! Women's Cooperative (Si Se Puede! in Spanish) was founded in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, in August, 2006, to bring together immigrant women to create a women-run, women-owned, eco-friendly housecleaning business. The cooperative is designed to create living wage jobs that will be done in a safe and healthy environment, as well as to providesocial supports and educational opportunities for our members.
When you hire a member of We Can Do It! to clean your home, 100% of the fee goes to the member who does the work. In contrast, when you hire someone through most other agencies, the agency takes a large percentage of the fee.
We have 20 founding members, all of whom have completed 10 weeks of training. Most are immigrants from Mexico and the Dominican Republic, and all members have an equal vote in decisions regarding policy and operations. In addition, members work together to promote the business and meet bi-weekly for on-going training and support. -
I've used white glove elite before and was very happy. It was about $22/hour, and you provide your own cleaning supplies.

had trouble searching other posts, I do remember ones in the past with other/more suggestions too. seeking company for small office cleaning in the slope.
Any ideas? Thanks -
DO NOT use Miracle Maids, they are horrible. Not only they keep on changing the maids on me (the company had originially promised to give me a regular person since I require weekly visit), the maids they send don't do good jobs either. And then they charged $350 to my credit card for service that I didn't use (they told me I have to pay cash each time even though they require me to give them credit card on file). After talking to the manager, they agreed the charge did not belong to me and would take it off. But, after months later the charge was still not reversed. I eventually got the money back from my credit card company thru a long dispute. Will never use them again.
I now use a wonder lady who comes to clean my apartment regularly. I will give you her contact information if you PM me. -
I used Miracle Maids once. I was at work when they came and my then-boyfriend was home. They had no idea how to work the vacuum (a Dyson) and after they emptied the canister, they couldn't figure out how to get it back in place so the jammed it in sideways. Of course, my ex was oblivious to this and paid them.

I use a small private business. They offer great deals (buy a certain amount of visits and get one free), are trust worthy and reliable. PM if you want information.

Julian just spent 4 hours at my house today. This is the 3rd time I've had him clean for me (thanks to Duffy's recommendation) and I'm very pleased. I'm starting to use him once/mo or so. He does a great job and takes pride in his work. Plus, as a one-man shop, he counts on referrals which I believe is a great deterrent for anybody to steal. -
Can someone please refer me to this Julian? I need a cleaning person. thanks!

That sounds cheap.
That place that charges $30 for cleaning supplies is ripping people off. You can buy a huge bottle of bleach for less than $2. I'd like to see all the "supplies" they say add up to $30. -

What a headache. Making all those calls to get the $350 must have been a huge pain and taken up a lot of your time. Glad you have someone good now.
