Red Hook Soccer Fields= Foooooooooood!

Ok, so I FINALLY went to the soccer field on Clinton and Bay to eat at the fabled soccer tents this past Saturday. Been wanting to sample the Central, South American, and Mexican food for a while now. It was very good. My girlfriend raved about the shrimp ceviche. I didn't try the shrimp but I tasted the broth. Excellent. I did have an order of two bean and cheese papusas and I thought they were very good. Had a corn tamale with them and it was good. However, it wasn't filled with anything. Apparently, "corn tamale" doesn't mean "filled with cheese." (Who knew?) The pickled "slaw" that came with the order was delicious. Wanted to get a second order but ol' girl wanted me to save room for the huarache. We split a huge cheese huarache, put some cactus in it for good measure and it was delicious too. Note: the green sauce near the guacamole is NOT guacamole. Found that out the hard way. Go easy on that hot sauce unless you enjoy burning the frame out of your colon. We did meet a couple that had a low opinion of the papusas and it turned out that the woman was from Panama. Since that was the first time I had papusas, I respect her opinion. Could be a regional difference in the papusa recipe. Food was relatively cheap. I will be going back in the upcoming weeks to try some of the other food before the city shuts the place down.
