Crocs gets into clothes
Pacific Business News (Honolulu) - 9:07 AM HAST Monday, August 27, 2007
Crocs Inc. said Monday it will launch its first line of apparel, featuring shirts, pants and skirts made from a new version of the material used in its famous footwear.

The Colorado-based company (Nasdaq: CROX) said it will launch the apparel line in October.

The clothing will be made from a synthetic material called Croslite rt, which Crocs said is derived from the Croslite material used in its shoes. The "rt" in the name stands for "relaxed technology."

The material "enables garments to be resistant to harsh chemicals and heat, ensuring longevity after exposure to sun, UV light and sweat," Crocs said Monday in a statement.

Crocs is giving retailers a first look at the apparel line at the Magic Marketplace trade show going on through Thursday in Las Vegas.

The new clothing line will include short- and long-sleeved T-shirts for adults retailing for $36-$40, made of a blend of cotton and Croslite rt, and woven shirts ($54-$58) made entirely of the new material.

The company also will offer children's shorts, pants and skirts that can be accessorized with the same Jibbitz charms that are used on Crocs footwear.

The clothes will come in colors complementing those used in Crocs footwear.

Crocs said it also plans to introduce a spring 2008 apparel line that will expand the use of Croslite rt.

  • oh god. my cousin used to do advertising/marketing for them and at his wedding last month, everyone was WEARING crocs. I kinda wanted to kill everyone. fwiw, boulder colorado is really scary. everyone is rich, white, a hippy, and scary. I can't take it.
  • I was at the Underhill playground with the Boyz yesterday and a mid-30s woman had the same Crocs on as my 2 1/2 year-old.

I couldn't wear the same shoes as a toddler in good faith.
  • I must make a confession. I have the same crocs (just regular ol' black ones) as my 3-year-old nephew. But I am more than willing to admit that they are FUG on me and could only ever look cute on people his age. What can I say, I just don't give a shit about shoes, appearance-wise, and almost always go for comfort before all else. I do mostly confine the crocs to my own backyard and the occasional dog walk. And a croc wedding, well, that's (way) over the line.
