Crossing the street at the mere sight of any dog = fearful.lmboogie wrote: i don't particulary like dogs in general.
That's because you don't understand them, nor do you care to, which is kinda funny since you were the one that said -lmboogie wrote: my comments are genuine so please let's try to have a decent exchange.

Whew! Reading body language! Can you read the body language of other people? Guess what - dogs have pretty much the same body language. Dogs are supposedly of inferior intellect, but they can read your body language - how hard can it be?lmboogie wrote: i was pointing out the dangerousness of pitbull-types ... mainly because they seem to be in the news more often than not.
Ah, I see - I thought that we were actually thinking and discussing, not merely regurgitating stuff learned from the fear-mongering headlines that bump newspapers sales and TV ratings. Would it help if I pulled stories about the many pitbull-types that serve as therapy dogs? No, it wouldn't help - you don't want a discussion, you want someone to rationalize your fears. -
[quote= fearful.
according to you not me. a few months ago i decided to start crossing the street because i was actually kicking the little bastards when the owners w to fucking inconsiderate to hold there cute little dogs back. i actually posted something about this a while back. casseopole (sp) had suggested I cross the street instead of kicking them.Whew! the comparison to people is beyond my intellect. …..just hold your (not you personally) fucking dog, don’t let it sniff me and please don’t think I think it’s cute and want to pet it.Ah, I see - I thought that we were actually thinking and discussing, not merely regurgitating stuff learned from the fear-mongering headlines that bump newspapers sales and TV ratings.
I didn’t learn any of the following through media:
Watching pitbulls fight to death just about every weekend.
Watching pitbull get shot in the head after losing
Watching a pitbull damn near kill a 3 year old child walking down a courtyard
Countless pitbull attack on smaller dogs in the neighborhood
Reading about a pitbull killing a small dog on this boardyou want someone to rationalize your fears.
please sweetie. i certainly don’t need anyone to rationalize my opinions. i still think dogs are dirty, nasty, some times dangerous creatures and i don’t want anything to do with them. -
wow. watching a dog get shot in the head i think would do more to convince me that people are dirty, nasty, and sometimes dangerous, but it is certainly true that it's hard to overcome experiences like those you cite. i have a couple of friends who were attacked (not by pits -- by classically abused "watch dogs"), and as much as they'd like to be entirely unafraid of dogs, it's not going to happen.
it's good that you're finding a way to not kick dogs. for whatever it's worth, i've met lots of pit bulls that are not at all like the ones you describe seeing. that doesn't mean you have to start petting dogs if you don't want to -- but i also understand, having met his dog, why this issue gets whyfi riled up. -
let me just add one last thing on this topic. there are many cultures that are adverse to having dogs in the home and find them quite disgusting. ever trying walking around crown heights with a dog on a leash? try it and let me know what reaction you get from the hasidic jews.

While I agree that a lot of owners need to learn how to control their dogs, why would one kick dogs, other than fear? Contempt? Neither does much to add to the credibility of your desire to have a "decent exchange."lmboogie wrote: the comparison to people is beyond my intellect.

So, remind me how this has more bearing on the breed than on the scum that you choose to associate with?

So why start a conversation on the pretense that you want to have a "decent exchange"? You're obviously ignorant AND stubborn when it comes to this subject, and your mind isn't going to be changed by someone with more knowledge and more experience. Leave it alone and go play with the other kids. -
so typical.... obviously i could have said just about anything regarding pitbulls and you would have been on my ass about it. but i'll play.
While I agree that a lot of owners need to learn how to control their dogs, why would one kick dogs, other than fear? Contempt?
how about frustration.Neither does much to add to the credibility of your desire to have a "decent exchange."
you keep quoting this. read what i wrote....to suggest that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with this breed is irresponsible. you may have done a great job raising your dogs but for years these dogs have been bred to kill. how could you possibly still suggest it's the people not the dog when clearly genetically these dogs are predisposed to violent behavior
give me a fucking break, i was asking/stating something about the dogs genetics. the posts that followed were "decent" exchanges. you turned this entire post into a personal attack on you and your dog and can't seem to accept that i don't like dogs and find them disgusting. So, remind me how this has more bearing on the breed than on the scum that you choose to associate with?
haha, this comment had me in stitches.
there are some people who don't have a choice on what neighborhood they grow up in. i.e. i grew up in a brooklyn housing project. the scum you reference were my neighbors and believe me there was nothing i could do to stop the weekend dog fights in the court yard. You're obviously ignorant AND stubborn when it comes to this subject, and your mind isn't going to be changed by someone with more knowledge and more experience.
you're obviously and asshole who doesn't respect other people's opinions on this particular topic. clearly... since you think "conversing" means the end result will be changing someone's mind. -
BOTH OF YOU STOP IT.
any more name-calling, and i'm locking this thread.
this was a civil conversation. if you cannot keep it that way, then leave it alone. -

Yeah, so your main point was refuted with empirical evidence, anecdotal evidence, logical reasoning, and insight into animal (and specifically pack) behavior, yet you've completely ignored all points.to suggest that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with this breed is irresponsible. you may have done a great job raising your dogs but for years these dogs have been bred to kill. how could you possibly still suggest it's the people not the dog when clearly genetically these dogs are predisposed to violent behavior

Like call the cops...? In any event, I like how, when specifically asked why you were arguing the dangerousness of APBTs, you replied, "mainly because they seem to be in the news more often than not," but now, all of the sudden, you were in the cheap seats overlooking the ring. Nice attempt to improve your credibility on the subject, but even that doesn't address your "main point."lmboogie wrote: you're obviously [an] asshole who doesn't respect other people's opinions on this particular topic.
I respect some people's opinions more than that of others; you've yet to show that your opinion was formed on a firm foundation.lmboogie wrote: clearly... since you think "conversing" means the end result will be changing someone's mind.
No, my idea of "conversing" doesn't hinge on a specific result, but rather on the earnestness of the participants. You initiated the conversation by issuing a proclamation that "to suggest that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with this breed is irresponsible." Since that proclamation, you've shown that you have no knowledge of the subject matter and fear/distaste for/frustration with the subjects of the discussion. Forgive me if I don't believe that you were sincere in your desire for a real conversation.
