what is the going rate around here for a one bedroom apartment?

    $1500 +/- $200-300 depending on location, size, amenities, quality, etc.

    That's looney, you can get a 2BR for that much, my 2BR in a brand new high rise with a view of Manhattan is 1800, my friends down the hall on the south side of the building pay 1550 for their 2BR

    I'd say ~1000-1400

    I'm gonna guess you live in that building on St. Marks and that's not Prospect Heights. Maybe the OP also is willing to be flexible on their PH boundaries, so a 1br could be somewhere between $1100-1600.

    Yeah I'd say about 1,200 and up. Maybe average around 1,400.

    You may be able to get a studio for a little bit less, but unlikely. Really unlikely. My "One Bedroom" (Studio) was just jacked up from 1,100 to 1,250 after I vacated August 31st. I saw the listing on CL but if they were raising it to 1,150 for me and it is stabilized, how is that possible they can raise it another hundred in the listing? sketcht.

    I may be wrong but I believe rent stabilization only applies as long as the same tenant stays there. Correction: rent stabilization still applies, but applies differently to the same tenant renewing vs. a new tenant renting. http://www.housingnyc.com/html/guidelines/vacancy.html

    As far as what would be the market rent... I moved to PH almost 4 years ago and rented a 2-br for $1,365/mo. The landlady likes us as tenants and so just marginally increases it every year; now up to $1,600. I'd expect a 1br to be listed now (in PH; not CH) around $1,400 or so, same as everyone else.

    And pitu I understood everything; not my fault she was hetero-phobic.

    I have a friend who just signed a lease through Marjorie Thompson for a 1 bedroom on St.J's btwn Wash/Under (closer to Underhill) for $1400. They asked for $1500. Nice size 1 bedroom, great for a single person, not great for a couple.

    God damned building mgmt... good people but man oh man did the lie to fill that building up. I wanna stay another year though...

    Actually it purely depends where in Prospect Heights and what building. I have seen rents for 1BR studios for as high as $3,000.

    I don't know where to look. Craigslist is horrible. According to Craigslist, Rogers Ave. is Prospect Heights.

    Lol. I've found Craigslist to be the best place to look, but look out for scams and totally disregard the neighborhood listed and go by the address. The best place to look when you already know where you want to be is to walk around and write down posted phone numbers.

    Rents are skyrocketing now due to the housing crisis. I don't know about one bedrooms but a decent 2 bedroom starts like $2500, $2600 around PH.

    I need to get a job in paris - 2.5 euro gigantic ham, cheese & butter baguette sandwiches? please. one of those would keep me fed for a day. (well, one did, actually, when I was in paris in january). cost of living there is totally doable.
