That other thread you speak of and the use of the word "ghetto" need not be defended by you nor is it insensitive to anyone, it is more of an indication of the person using the term and their ignorance. The comment that followed about the "40" indicates more the persons bias and stupidity and how they see certain people and their businesses.
Guru, you misunderstand -- I was defending bknest in that thread.

And bknest -- okay, maybe you're not a bigot. But you're certainly acting very abrasive to just about everyone, even when people are trying to be bloody nice to you.

The post I was responding to was much more caustic and abrasive. I don't even know why you were so offended. Comparing what I said to what was said in the other thread is like comparing artichokes and cucumbers!

I'm taking the whole history of your communication in these threads into account here; that's what made me unsure whether your "sarcasm" actually was sarcasm.

Yes please take into account that none of my posts have been racially divisive.

    Presenting, your very first post:
"I've been noticing people in the nabe wearing t-shirts that say, "Clinton Hill Chill" on them. Where can I buy one?"

My reply was you can't, you have to be part of the community. Which I'm sure if you were, you wouldn't have had a problem asking the young african american males you saw "in the nabe" wearing the t-shirts about where to purchase one.
I can't help noticing, bknest, that nowhere in lesterhead's original question - which you yourself quoted above, too -- did she anything at all about the race of the person she saw wearing the t-shirt.

You were the one that went gallopping off into the conclusion that the person she saw wearing the shirt was black, and that that must have been the reason lesterhead didn't talk to them, and you proceeded to chastise us all for this imagined slight -- when there wasn't even anything to indicate that the race of the person wearing the t-shirt in the first place, or anything to indicate lesterhead's race either.

The first person to introduce race into this entire argument at all was you, and you not only introduced it into the argument, you used it as a springboard to lecture people on their conduct.

If that's not racially divisive, I'll eat my shoe.

Race was introduced to describe the person wearing the shirt as I stated I KNOW who printed the shirts, WHY the shirts were printed and WHO they were handed out to. Stating this was not being racially divisive at all. Lesterhead said after that that she saw a teenage girl and young man wearing the shirts. Both of whom I KNOW were african american based on who received the shirts. I'm sure lesterhead can cosign that the ppl she saw wearing the shirts were indeed african american. Nothing I said alluded to the race of lesterhead. The only people who's race I spoke on was the people wearing the shirts which I know to be a FACT. Thats' not divisive at all. And by the way since this thread has been up ppl have started iinquiring w/ my friend about the shirts...maybe it put the battery in the back of a few.

Do youu need condiments to go w/ that shoe?! lol
  • i didn't really want to get into the argument at all and also don't agree with most of your views, find most of your arguments skewed and lacking in that they are presented in a hostile manner and fail to take into account the entirety of the opposing viewpoint but, rather, pick and choose what points to harp on in order to fuel a biased agenda, and generally find your attitude to be distasteful. therefore, i allied myself with your individual point only grudgingly.
  • bknest wrote: The only people who's race I spoke on was the people wearing the shirts which I know to be a FACT. Thats' not divisive at all.
But you introducing it into the conversation by accusing her of that being reason she didn't ask them WAS divisive. You made the assumption that race was the factor.
Do youu need condiments to go w/ that shoe?! lol
I don't see as you have reason to celebrate yet, sirrah.

I didn't accuse her of anything except not asking the person she saw w/ the shirt and instead asking on a message board(which is a fact). I never said the reason she didnt ask was because of race. Simply stating the persons race who wore the shirt doesn't automatically make it divisive.

Then, why DID you bring race into the issue at all?

I simply stated and identified the race of the person/persons wearing the shirt because I know who has the shirts. If one person other than myself had the shirt I couldve said "why didnt you ask Joey about the shirts when you saw him?!". But this wasnt the case. Like I said it wasn't divisive at all.
  • The thread is dead as the "point" is moot. As I said, the shirts were for sale on Clinton Ave last weekend. I think that answers the OP, and also puts to bed the notion that only folks in the community have access to them. Lets go infect another innocent thread with all sorts of misconceptions, and throw gentrification into the mix too. So many threads, so little time . . .

Actually those weren't the shirts that were on sale. The shirts that were on sale were different from the ones lesterhead asked about and handed out on clinton hill day.
  • I saw Clinton Hill Chill shirst on sale. I remember them specifically because I thought they were a bit corny and wondered what dork would want to wear that.

Why don't you ask the next person you see wearing one that exact question?!
  • Poor guy, bknest, are you offended? Honestly, your reactions are comical. Why in the world would I go and tell someone I think their t-shirt is corny. They might not like what I'm wearing. So what. They were selling the shirts though on Clinton Avenue during the annual stoop sale. Sorry not everyone in your club got the memo from you that said only the inducted, super secret cool kids get to wear them.:lol::lol: Absolutely hilarious. You take yourself way too seriously.

I'm not offended at all. But I'm the kind of person that whatever I speak on the 'net, I can speak in person. Super secret cool kids?! Are you twelve?!!
  • That's exactly my point. Your "these are our shirts for those who are the old time residents who know about Clinton Hill Day, you wouldn't understand or know about it" rant is truly juvenile and very high school sounding. Clearly not everyone views the t-shirts/Clinton Hill Day that way, or the neighborhood, if they sell them at stoop sales.

And why would you ever tell a vendor that you think what they are selling is crap, or that someone's trendly close look ridiculous to you. You must be a charming person to be around if you express such opinions freely. Perhaps you'd like to go up to all of the people you think don't interact in an appropriate way in "your" neighborhood and start ranting at them for that - out of the blue - I'm sure they'd love it. Your posts are just classic and seriously make me laugh, even though I know that's not your intention.

Anyway, have a good weekend and try to relax and maybe say hello to all those intruders into "your" neighborhood. Might bring your blood pressure down.
  • sorry, meant to say "trendy clothes" not "trendly close"...

Like I said I saw the shirts on sale and they werent the same shirts. It's nothing to have some shirts printed up w/ words on the front. And no I won't go up to random ppl and "rant" but if ever I had a chance to have dialogue I'd express everything said here and more!! Intruders? Where was that said?! I love how ppl love putting words in my mouth or making incorrect inferences based on my points. I think I've wrote the word WELCOME atleast 20 times in this thread!
  • Whatever bknest. You talk out of both sides of your mouth. You "welcome" everyone but berate people who do not know what Clinton Hill Day is, or people that you have not seen voting or at school meetings, and tell them they live here but are not part of the community. Glad to know that you know everyone in the community, what they do in the community, their personal histories and their ties to the neighborhood and Brooklyn (many of whom may in fact have much more history here than you kind sir) so well that you can make that judgment. Good grief. You really don't realize how ignorant and intolerant you sound, do you.
  • Oh lord! Now they werent the same shirts? You never cease to amaze.

I didnt berate anyone about not knowing about CH day..there you go again. I told her if she inquired she mightve found out something about the nabe from someone in the nabe that she wouldnt have known otherwise(HOW MANY TIMES HAVE i said this!). As far as voting and schools, I said I have NOT seen the makeup of the nabe now reflected in the two. This is something I observed as I have kids in schools in the area and I vote for local elections so unless you can refute it then leave it alone. Nothing I said was with out basis. Please link me to these posts of intolerance.
