Gowanus Nursery threatened with eviction!
This sucks, because this store and these people deserve much better. I've bought hundreds of dollars worth of beautiful perennials from them, and I loved their new location.
Michele Paladino, owner of the Gowanus Nursery, could be forced to move if the Department of City Planning approves a request from the property owners that would allow them to build housing on the lot she subleases. [snip] Paladino said she spent roughly $60,000 last year to move her business from Third Street in Gowanus — her old landlord decided to develop housing on that property, too — to its current enclave at 45 Summit St., and she’s still repaying the loan.

I agree. It also sucks because there is now a "For Rent" sign on the old space, leading one to believe it's not being developed at all - just a rent hike. damn shame too - it was the only nice thing on the block.Michele Paladino, owner of the Gowanus Nursery, could be forced to move if the Department of City Planning approves a request from the property owners that would allow them to build housing on the lot she subleases. Where is this Nursery??
Is this the one very close to Fairway?
Is this the one on the Pier?
Geez I bought plants so over the place I lost track of the names. Silly for me to even ask where they are located.. if they won't be there next Spring... but curious anyway! -

No, the one close to Fairway is the Chelsea Garden Center.

This one - Gowanus Nursery - is on Summit Street, between Hicks & Columbia. Locally owned and operated. Used to be on Third Street and Hoyt (or Bond - i forget which). A little bit on the pricey side, but you can't match the service and the health of the plants. Lots of variety for our local climate. -
Ok.. Sorry to hear of its demist but never shopped there and I have bought plants in many places..lol!!
Chelsea Garden Center was pricey and a little too "self service" for me.
My all time fave is still the Nursery on Caton and "almost" Coney Island Ave.
In Aug I picked up some amazing stuff at Shannons.. Ft Hamilton Pkway... things I hadn't seen in other Nurseries///
Hey the season is over... At this point just keeping things neat and waiting for Fall to set in. -

Plus, fall is the best time to plant large perennials, in my experience. :flower:

I take back that "over statement"...
I might plant bulbs this Fall.. just havent thought about it very much yet.
One year I planted tulips 3 days before Christmas... and the spring showing was great.. not that I recommend waiting that long.
