Need tech help with gmail and Outlook 2003

Ok, I've driven myself half-crazy working on this for 2 days without a solution.

Scenario: one desktop (running XP), new laptop (Vista)...both running Outlook 2003.

(also have a Blackberry).

I want all new mail that comes to my gmail account to go to all 3 places, regardless of whether it has been opened.

I followed the gmail recommendations of using "recent" in my Outlook config to make all mail come to all places.

Nada.

Mail is going to BB and PC, but not to laptop.

Somebody put me out of my misery (and I don't mean by telling me to buy a Mac :lol: )

  • Have you tried the "leave a copy on the server" setting for all of the email clients?
  • Yes, but it actually advises against that.......I tried it both ways
  • So, it's not getting to your laptop at all?

I don't have a BB, but I assume that you have a little server app installed on the desktop PC and that it's tied in on the Outlook account?
  • Nope......

the BB has always worked fine....I had BB and PC and all was good. Added laptop and now it's not coming to laptop.

what do you mean by a "little server app"?
  • Oh, happy day! I think I've fixed it!

Seems Gmail's help site has conflicting instructions.

Normally you need to uncheck "leave messages on server", but when you use the "recent" feature, you should check it. I haven't seen that documented anywhere.

I whole bunch of trial and error later, I think I'm good.

Now, to only come up with a scheme for data transfer :-)
