well,
i see i am not the only one trying to write about this.
the ny sun person has an outlet, at least. i hope it will help the problem.
i talked to several postal service people - nobody wants to talk about the problem and what they are doing with it!

That Sun article is interesting (and funny/frustrating)
so they're trying to phase out 'door delivery' and replace them with 'cluster boxes'
what does that mean? on big group of small mail boxes per block?
also- are they going to change the inscription in the facade of the general P.O. on 34th street?"Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."
"except stoops - they will stop us" -
Cool article in the Sun.
Though it focuses on a specific problem. From what I heard from you guys, the problem is not so much the mail not getting up the stoop, but the mail not getting there at all.
Lost rent checks, medicine, etc.
Am i right? -

You're absolutely right. The problems with mail delivery in Fort Greene go WAY beyond mail carriers refusing to climb stoops. I'm disappointed that the Sun decided to focus on only one aspect of the many problems with this post office. Unless maybe they're planning to stretch this into a whole series -- THAT might get some attention.

Still happening on Adelphi Street with the bad mail delivery - I have "lost" two packages in the month of September, and after repeated and repeated attempts to refund the money, etc, I got no where with the post office.
I literally have all packages delivered to where I work now or only use UPS or others with step by step package tracking and signature confirmation.
Too bad it has to come to things like avoiding the PO at all costs... :? -
I thought I was the only one.
I've been complaiining to the manager at Pratt Station (5 of them in the last six years) and filling official complaints with main post office (4 times)
Our mail ends up under the stoop (mainly on rainy days)
We have a different carrier every day.
We get neighbors' mail at least twice per week (usually on the block, but somethimes someone living blocks away. Makes me wonder how much of my mail is going .......where?
I've forwarded the article and link to this blog to Letticia James (City Councilwoman for much of the discussed area). -

so true an to make it worse since they are now using the door slot on the garden level door (instead of the climbing the stoop to the mailboxes) I have no way of returning the mis-delivered mail to the carrier. I complained to the main PO when they used to drop the entire bldgs mail in my entrance way via the old mail slot and they for a while they stopped.. they've started again..but since I'm the only one in the bldg its only my mail..so I don't care..unless it rains

With the impending population increase in FG/CH/Bed-Sty, I think the postal delivery situation is serious. We need to take it seriously. Call, write or email your City Council Rep, Block Association, Neighborhood Assn and generally every one you can think of.
I understand the "slip and fall" threat of icy brownstone steps, but heck, we haven't had one of those days since.....last winter? What's up with the rest of the year. -
Subject: Mail delivery in Fort Greene
I mailed myself a registered letter from the Myrtle Ave(Pratt Station) in
Sept....I live less than .5 mile from Pratt Station...after waiting two weeks I went to the Pratt Station Post office with my receipts...after waiting 20 minutes the manager came out with my letter! I paid $8.30 and had to go to the post office to get my mail...there was never a notice left in my mailbox that the mailman had tried to deliver the letter...i was told I could call 1-800-ask-usps...! I have lived at this address for 8 years and have always had problems with the mail. It is beyond being a joke...I am always getting mail for people who live on other streets... -
Look for the thread titled: "Mail Problems - Fort Greene - Part 2"....someone might be able to make them listen!!!! Send this guy your stories!!

Has anyone has specific problems with magazines?
I havnt gotten my TONY mag in two weeks, before that it was coming about every other week. TONY says they're sending it (and I'm sure they are, it comes every once in a while...) I also have a glamour subscription that I paid for 3 months ago and still havnt seen a SINGLE magazine, although glamour said they've sent all three.
I live on lafayette in 11205- is it even worth calling the po? -
In 11205, magazines were delayed the whole time I lived there. Jane magazine always came later than the stores got them, and I was going on a 2-3 day delay on TONY.
I live in 11217 now, but haven't had any magazines arrive there yet. -
You guys are seriously inconsiderate. What do you expect the postal workers to read during bathroom breaks?
