Favorite restaurant for groups of people?

looking for a yummy, average-priced restaurant in the slope that is group-friendly...

good beer is also a necessity. or at least top notch margaritas!

sometimes it's really hard to find the right atmosphere, and something not too pricy! since I'm a student I dine out fairly infrequently...and I'd really appreciate recommendations!

    Depends on when you want to go. Dinner, lunch, weekend?

    For weekend brunch, I love Coco Roco (5th Ave between 6/7 Streets) for a group. They have a nice amount of space, the food is good, and it's cheap.

    The Brooklyn eats section might have some helpful threads...

    Song (on Fifth Ave) is good for groups - cheap food, real bartender, veg and meat options, etc.

    La Villa can handle groups. They even have two big, round booths that can seat 8 or 9.

    I ate in La Villa last time for the first since the one other time and that was when it had been opened less than a month. Long time between visits. The place would really be great for larger groups. It has a nice airey feel to it and some large booths and places where tables could put fit together. We had pizza.. it was excellent. The brocolli rabe was lovely! The salad was terrific. No alchohol on this one but 2 diet cokes ordered.. 5 people at the table. The bill came to $13 with a generous tip for the lovely waiter.. he was cute.

    i seem to remember coco loco being closed for a whole for a ridiculous amount of truly gross health violations. where is that website again, to check?

    I wouldnt have bothered reading the post again myself except I wanted to say something about Brooklyn Potter's comments on COCO Roco..

    Yeah their list of violations was pretty bad.. the condition of their bathroom is still not so great but I have eaten there after they re opened.. more than once.. I like the food so much I guess I am just willing to ignore the knowing that the BOD closed them.

    Two Boots-outside, and when kids aren't there. Margaritas, good food to share.

    Bogota's (on 5th near corner of St Johns) and the North end Olive Vine on 7th. Both have several vegetarian options (if that matters to your crowd) and layouts that accommodates a group well (especially to add on for stragglers). Olive Vine is BYOB; Bogota has drink specials on a few nights.
    The bonus appeal (to me) is that you can eat cheap. Sometimes I am with folks that have varying opinions of what to spend on a meal out.

    BTW: it was about time Olive Vine tiled the enclosed terrace area. That outdoor carpet over gravel wasn't pleasant.

    Many times those large groups you see in Spirito have just come from Duffy's Funderal Home.

    I happen to already be a big fan of coco roco (wasn't sure if they opened back up or not..), and have heard great things about la villa and long tan. thanks for backing up these rumors!! :)

    ah, but don't the best places have the most violations? I like to think of it as their own personal seasoning... It's been re-opened for a while.

    I've only ever gotten sick off of undercooked egg in the french toast at Beso, and I mean really sick. I lost 3-4 lbs that week! Just the thought of that once delicious dish turns my stomach now.

    I don't want to be misinterpreted on this response. I have posted on Spirito before. I live within spitting distance of this restaurant. It is not a place to dine ONLY after funerals! It is a fine place to celebrate all those happy moments too.

    I have discussed the loud, techno music with the owners.. One of the owners is a dj/ recording engineer.. type person.. He describes what is being played in the place as HIS music.. So my compromise with the owners, because I do eat there often is to eat upstairs . The music can't be blasted up there because it would disturb the neighbors.. So that is a good hint.. if the loud music would discourage you from eating here.

    And going back to the original comment I made.. I am sure that if a group comes in for lunch or dinner (after a funeral service or a wake) they are sensitive enough to scope out the situation and turn that music down.
