Stove drama.... Day Three — Brooklynian

Stove drama.... Day Three

I've been waiting on a new stove for THREE days now. I'm so fed up I could cry, except that would really aggravate my asthma. I'm beginning to think that the company has no intention of ever delivering it. How many days of work do I have to give up?

This isn't the landlord's fault because the landlord has done everything they could to pressure the company into delivering my stove and yet nothing happens. And the sheer arrogance of this company has me seeing red.

It was supposed to be delivered last Friday. I asked the landlord to ask the company to deliver early if possible because I had things I needed to do before shabbes. Of course, by 4, they weren't here (and they claimed that they had tried to call me, which they couldn't have done since they do not have my number, plus I have no record of it) and I had to take off.

On Monday, I told the super and the landlord that the stove had to be *installed* by 4:30 because I had a train I absolutely had to catch and I could not be late. I called at noon, and the stove company said that they would be there between 3 and 4. Four o'clock comes about, and they were still not here. I was told 10 or 15 minutes and still.... not here. I had to give up at 4:30 (and giving keys to the super wasn't a possibility because I have cats that I can't expect him to round up AND I wasn't due to get back until 1 AM and would have no way back into my apartment.) As I was leaving the house, I see the truck offloading my stove. And they actually expected me to let them into my house and install it when I didn't have the time. They told me that they wouldn't come back tomorrow and were basically extraordinarily rude to me. And they had the CHUTZPAH to say it wasn't their fault!

I understand mistakes. Mistakes are fine, but when someone refuses to take responsibility for their mistakes and expects me to pay the price for it, I will hit the roof, and I did. (Free entertainment for the whole block!)

So today, I ended up begging off work so they could deliver my stove. The stove company told my landlord between 3 and 6. It is now past 6:30. My landlord tried to call them and they aren't picking up the phone. I think they have no intention of EVER delivering my stove. Certainly there is no chance of my having a working stove before the new year. I just wasted yet ANOTHER day waiting for these people who won't show up and I don't know what to do. I can't afford to continue to take days off work. I spend all day not eating because I have no food because I can't COOK food! I have eaten too many of those Instant Lunches which isn't going to help me get over my flu any faster due to the utter lack of nutrition. I have no idea when I'll even get to pick up my laundry because I'm trapped here.

I don't know what to do.

  • That sucks! I hope it is delivered soon....
  • Well, once again, STILL no stove! They told me that it would be delivered by 8. They probably aborted without telling me. Now it's too late to get food and medicine I desperately need because everything is closed. And I suppose I'm expected to give up yet ANOTHER day of work. I'm so upset I can't breathe. And I'm hungry. I don't know when I'll be able to eat again because I'm stuck here.

They're probably punishing me for the temper tantrum I threw yesterday. (Like how dare I actually worry about catching the ONE train out to Bay Shore. A stove is more important than my career after all!)

I don't know what to do. I'm in limbo here because I don't even know which stove company it is so I can't even file a complaint. Furthermore, I don't know if I'm in a position to complain really because it's my landlord that paid for the stove. They're refusing to deliver what they paid for.
  • Can't your landlord have them call him on their way to deliver it and he can let them in? I do that for my tenants in a pinch. Seems to me you've gone above and beyond for the stove company, who's behavior is inexcusable.
I would think the landlord would agree, seeing what you've already gone through and not being able to miss another day of work, to assist in the delivery of your stove once and for all.
Sometimes lifes just like that, isn't it?
  • In terms of food, call one of the places that delivers in the neighborhood and get some soup and a hot meal. Do a search on the board, there is a thread on this. Also, a number of the bodegas have basic cold medicine behind the counter so if you are just looking for some over the counter stuff that might tide you over for the evening.
  • The only problem is I have cats and when I'm having heavy stuff schlepped into my apartment, I prefer to lock them away in the bedroom for their safety. I cannot expect the super to do this for me and I obviously cannot leave them in the bedroom all day.

I just made a late night run to Nostrand so I was able to get what I need for now. I got cough drops (which isn't great, but should get me through).

Anyway, a great thing happened on my run that cheered me up, but I'm going to post about that in another thread.

Why not? It's not at all obvious to me. I'm not trying to sound like a smartass; I think you may be so frazzled by the situation that you're not looking at this as rationally as you could. Just put their litter box and food in your bedroom with them, close the door, put a note on the door warning the landlord not to let them out, and let your landlord deal with this. This is your landlord's responsibility, not yours.

Your cats won't die if they're locked up in your bedroom all day. Even if it happens more than once. Give them a little extra catnip and ear-skritching when you get home and they'll be fine.
  • My bedroom is REALLY tiny. That stuff would barely fit and I'm afraid I would end up with cat food and/or litter on the bed. The older one would be cool. The young one would go ape and destroy stuff which is why I usually put her in her kennel instead. (Fine for a few hours, not a whole day).

Anyway, because of the holiday, it's not like my landlord is going to be around at all today. So I may have no way of contacting the stove company and finding if they are going to be coming at all.

I really think they have no intention of delivering it at all. Any request that they might deliver in the morning gets heavily resisted and they always put me LAST on the list with the result that I NEVER get my stove. I wish I knew which company it was because I would report them to the Consumer's Comission.

So I suppose there is NO chance of having a stove before the holiday. They ruined Shabbat for me and now they're going to ruin Rosh Hashanah too. As well as my piece of mind.
  • Ok, Day FOUR has started out with the stove company boldfaced LYING to my landlord saying that I called them and scheduled for today. I don't even have their NUMBER so how was I supposed to do that? I told her (since I'm dealing with a different person from management than yesterday) what happened yesterday, how I was promised a stove yesterday that never came and she was shocked. I suggested to her that since they had bought and paid for the stove that they should report the company to the Consumer's Commission, which she said they will consider doing because according to her, they have never had such a problem having a stove delivered.

Supposedly this stove will be delivered between 12 and 1.

This will be great if it happens, but I am skeptical.
  • I don't like anyone coming into my apartment when I'm not there because of the cats. I don't trust anyone else (other than friends or family, of course) to make sure that my cats don't slip out the front door. Especially people who don't have cats because they won't be thinking of them like I would. They could forget for a minute and leave the door open a little too wide. I've lost a cat before and amazingly enough found her, I never want to go through that again. I hope you get your stove soon and that your landlord reports them.
  • Well, the stove came EARLY. At about 11:30, which is why I'm glad I took my shower first. I was just about to give Penny his fluids so now he's all pissed off because Tuly has been fed and not him. However, they did not take the old stove away, so now I have TWO stoves in my kitchen.

The super is all pissed off because he thought they would take the old stove away and they wouldn't, so now he's trying to round up some people to take away the old stove and figure out how to connect the new stove. Joy joy. I hope this gets done soon. I have a LOT to do before the holiday!
  • Glad to hear it all worked out even though you were put through the mill getting the stove. Shouldn't be a big deal hooking it up.
Give Penny his food and a pat and I'm sure he'll forgive you for feeding Tuly first. Remind him how lucky he is to have you for a Mom.
Now you can focus on your holiday.
    Enjoy :cat:
  • Hallelujah, I have a stove! My super totally rocks. I ended up having to help him wrestle my old stove out of my apartment so I'm no longer stuck here. It's now on the fourth floor landing waiting to be taken away.

Now I have to go take care of Penny. He's giving me an evil glare.
  • Don't mean to be rude, but that was the most dramatic/whiny fucking post I have ever read. I'll have a pacifier delivered as fast as you can blink an eye if you need it. Sheesh.

C'mom you usually aim to be rude.
    :D
If you don't like the thread, move on. 'Cause there's something very unspecial about whining about whininess in others.
  • You know, YOU wait in your apartment for four days for a stove that the company refuses to deliver (and then lies and blames you for it) and then we'll see how much YOU whine.

I was stuck in a totatlly unfair position, with the flu, and no means to treat it because I couldn't leave the house. And the company repeatedly lied about when they would deliver the stove and had the balls to blame me for it.

My landlord told me that they're going to report them to the consumer's commission for this because the situation was out of control and unreasonable. It should NEVER have taken four days. They repeatedly lied to me about when they intended to deliver the stove and they deliberately would flout requests made because I had other obligations. I mean, is it reasonable that I should have to miss my train (and thereby lose my job) so they could deliver my stove when they felt like it? I gave up days of work because of this and there's no way I can be compensated for that.

A company is obligated to deliver when they say they will deliver, and not lie and blame the customer for failure to deliver. What they did was commit fraud.

Anyway, the stove really rocks. It's probably the best range I've ever had.
  • Subject: delivery of stove

lilibangladesh, how old are you? Good grief. What company were you referring to? I dont understand why you didnt call customer service and register a complaint and ask for compensation for the inconvenience ? Then again, unless you were late for work or had a medical emergency, why didnt you let them in when they unloaded it, it doesnt take that long to connect a stove. If it was that important you should have taken the 10 15 minutes instead of declining access and going thru the hassles of waiting for delivery another whole day.Glad it finally arrived and things worked out cause you were whining way too much and getting dramatic , cant eat, cant get flu medication. This is planet earth and you live in the city that never sleeps, restaurants deliver and pharmacies open 24 hours.
  • I couldn't call customer service because it wasn't me that ordered the stove so I didn't even know the name of the stove company. So the landlord called them. Repeatedly.

I just moved here and near where I live, everything including the bodegas shut down after 8 PM. I don't know where the delivery places are and I have no phone book.

And letting those people in on Monday wasn't an option. I didn't have 10 or 15 minutes to spare. There is only ONE train to Bay Shore an hour so if I had missed my train I would have been at least an hour late which was not acceptable.
  • LeeHo wrote: Don't mean to be rude, but that was the most dramatic/whiny fucking post I have ever read. I'll have a pacifier delivered as fast as you can blink an eye if you need it. Sheesh.
I think for the first time I'm in agreement with LeeHooooooo
  • Folks, come on. Be nice. If you don't like the thread, you don't *have* to read it. She didn't say anything inflammatory here. There's no need to rag on someone who was venting, okay?
  • sorry you had to go thru such a frustrating mess, lil.

i bet part of the reason why you were so frazzled was due to the fact that you had no control over the situation and were at the mercy of other people's arrangements.

in the future, one thing i would consider doing differently is insisting on getting the name and phone number of the company. having the landlord call for you is okay, but it would have been better to do it yourself -- the stove may not have come any faster, but at least you could have cut out the middle man and try to make some headway yourself. i'd be polite but firm with the landlord-- "give me the name and number so i can try to straighten this mess out myself, or i'll be forced to call YOU fifteen times a day and neither one of us wants that." like i said, it might not have come any faster but you would've gotten some satisfaction out of dealing with this yourself and could at least vent some frustration at the delivery people.

    happy cooking!
  • Oh I already did express my frustrations to the delivery people. And I had to deal with their extraordinary rudeness time and again.

I was actually glad to have the landlord handle it because I wasn't at all sure that I could keep my cool when talking to them and in my experience, losing one's temper tends to make situations worse, not better. It was bad enough to have those people lie to my landlord; had they lied to my face I would definitely have hit the roof.

And considering that the landlord paid for the stove and not me, I would imagine the landlord would have more clout in this situation.
  • 121 posts in less than 3 weeks is pretty impressive, unfortunately the majority of them gave me a MIGRAINE!
  • It is a groundbreaking event! I am in wholehearted agreement with KWOC, and I even laughed at his last post. Can we all really get along?

BTW, LilBangie, no phonebook/ nor knowing where bodegas are is no excuse with something called the internet. You seem incredibly capable of posting one million messages about your fucking stove, I'm sure you could have done some searches on the web, right?
  • It makes me wonder about *your* motives for posting, keeping alive a thread that was on its way to dying a natural death.

It's stupid to even to continue to discuss a situation that wrapped up a couple of weeks ago.

I was new. I didn't have my bearings. And I'm sure the flu and the run-in with amazingly rude delivery people wasn't helping me to think clearly. The situation is over and has been dealt with. I'm so sorry that you disapprove on how it was handled.

But you know what they say about not judging someone until you've walked in their platform shoes (no moccasins, sorry.)
  • Thanks to lilbangladesh's informative posts I know what supermarkets to avoid when trying to purchase Maxi-Pads!
  • KWOC & LeeHo - =D> never thought the two of you would be funny as a tag team.
  • LeeHo and King, I've already asked you once to lay off. You've both been around this site long enough to know better than to continue this. Please don't make me have to give you both a time-out; you SHOULD be adult enough to behave yourselves.

And OH MY GOD you just made me sound like my mother. Seriously, please stop.
  • apollonia hopefully we are all adults on this site. I've been attacked many times and even had some retard post an Anti-KWAC poll. But we take our lumps and move on. But unless anyone is being overly cruel and insensitive I say it's all fair game. Theres many posts on here that i don't agree with, and yet I still never cry foul.

Look, I hate to be all "RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH" here, but frankly, it isn't up to you to decide that your behavior towards lilbangladesh in this thread has been fine and dandy. I'm one of the site admins, I think you've crossed the line on our main rule of no personal attacks, and I've asked you to please stop. So: Please stop.

And if I remember right, that thread with the poll on you was dealt with by the mods and we've also stepped in when at times when you were being attacked. You may not have asked us to, but that's what we do because we're trying to uphold the rules of this site. I would think that perhaps you could draw some parallels between this situation and your line of work and maybe not try to make what the moderators have to do here any more difficult than it has to be.
