  • I posted something about Free Yoga in the Park a few weeks ago.

Liz Tortolani was the lady that is giving free yoga in the park. I've attended 3 Saturdays of yoga in the park and it's been AMAZING. I only met Liz through that flyer she posted, so I don't consider myself I "shiller". Liz also gives massages for $60/hr*. She does it at her house on Degraw btwn 4/5th Aves. I just had my first session with her last Sunday and it was truly wonderful. I plan to see her twice a month cos I'm starting to hurt from my desk job. She lives one block from me too! so that makes it all the more convenient. I'd highly highly recommend her. She really took the time to understand the problems I had with my body. Great that my yoga instructor is also my massage therapist as well, because she can give me an all-round guidance on my body/posture problems, etc. And you can't beat the price, really. I'm not sure if she'd want me posting her contact details here now, but you can pm me and I'll give you her contact info.

Also, please come join us for Free Yoga in the Park every Saturday at 10am at Prospect Park. We are at the corner of Long Meadow nearest to Grand Army. If you come through the path from Grand Army, where the Farmer's market is, you'll come through a short tunnel and we are on the grass just after that (behind the group that does tai chi there right before 10am). It's so nice to do yoga outdoors. My husband didn't want to wake up early for the first couple of times I went, but he managed to make it last Saturday, and he's hooked! =D Great way to meet other peeps in the neighborhood as well!

*Note: Another thing I liked about Liz was that she didn't push any of her other services during her free yoga instruction. I asked about it myself. And when I found out that she did massages too for such a reasonable price, I jumped on it. I figured if she's so nice as to give us free (AND great) yoga instruction, I'd like to help her out in other ways as well, like referring her clients via this board and other ways. Does that count as shilling? ;p Anyway, she's REALLY good, otherwise I won't be recommending her! I'm telling my friends in the neighborhood about her as well.
  • I have a friend whose girlfriend is a massage therapist; Niki takes bookings in two spas in Manhattan (at Shangri-La Spa on 72nd and at kala Massage on 43rd and 3rd), but also sometimes takes appointments in their home in Park Slope (they're at about Union and 5th).

I don't know whether she wants me just blasting her number out to the world at large in here, so I'm giving the Manhattan locations and maybe they can put you in touch with her. I can definitely vouch for her.
  • I can recommend Erica Keating at Opal. (Full disclosure: I was friendly with her before she became a massage therapist.) She's really great, and very nice.
  • I got a massage from Greg Lorenz in Fort Greene today and it was fantastic. He is very professional. It was worth a trek over to Dekalb. For an appointment, call 646-641-9153.
