Delivery — Brooklynian

Delivery

In London there is a great online delivery service that brings you food from many of the best restaurants in the city and will also pick up anything else you need and deliver it to you - I think they will pick up basically anything as long as it is legal. Everything is done online, you pay by credit card and its really convenient. Is there an equivalent here in New York, specifically in Brooklyn? Delivery.com only has three restaurants that deliver to north Slope. It also gets annoying calling in an order and having to give your credit card number and address again every single time you call.

Not in this area. Which is why we all have a folder full of takeout menus!
And actually keep one or two that are shoved under your front door.
I like the idea of the concierge service, but it's a bit Manhattan for this area.
  • seamlessweb is working on a residential delivery service. it's up and running in manhattan but not yet in bklyn (or at least, not this area). harass them - they're actually a pretty small company and would probably be interested in your ideas.
  • There is something like this in NY but I think that they don't take orders from the general public. My job used to offer them as a service to its employees. Its called Circles and is a pretty fancy concierge service.
  • there was a delivery service here in NYC a few years ago called Kozmo. it was really great, lasted about three years, and plunged into a fiery death.

Oooh, we use them at work at well. It's a great service and they've worked really hard to get the kinks out.

Oh god, stop! You're gonna make me cry! Back when they were in business we'd order in a movie, booze, and weed and never have to move more than ten steps from the couch. The good old days...

there's also menupages.com, which usually is pretty thorough and up-to-date in terms of who will deliver, but as of right now I don't know of any places that do it online. You could always fax in an order from your computer?
  • Actually I checked Seamless Web and they do deliver now in Park Slope! They don't have a big selection of restaurants though but they want people to send in recommendations for restaurants in the area to add.
  • Does anyone remember Urban Fetch or its competitior?

What I could use is a CHEAP various products delivery service like the deceased Urban Fetch for the following scenario.

At midnight on a Sunday, I arrive home exhausted and hungry, eager to devour a huge plate of pasta with red sauce and -- opps -- I slip and the red and white oily mess is all over my floor. I reach for the paper towels and CRAP, I'm out of paper towels and Windex!

yeah. I LOVE them. they deliver my lunch & dinner to me regularly when I'm stuck at work. and it's great - type a 9 digit number into a little text box and I don't have to fill out any forms to bill our clients. rockin'!
