best video store in park slope?
Hey all
I'm about to start teaching a film class to kids and would like to know people's opinions on what the best video stores are in the neighborhood. I'm not talking about just for children's or "family" movies...I've got a pretty broad range of films on my list. Netflix has 'em, but i don't want to just rely on the mail. I need better and faster access.
So, thoughts?

Get Reel Video on 5th ave. The very best. Lovely staff, cool artsy films as well as HBO series and New Releases. Love this place. It's too bad that Netflix (as much as I do like them) is making these mom and pop stores extinct.
Netflix has a huge collection but these neighborhood places have warmth and character. They get to know you and help you out. They have stocked flims that I've requested and they give me a break sometimes when I forget my wallet and need credit
Anyways, can't say enough about my local video store. It's teh awesome.
(No I don't work there, though that would be a fun job) -
don't h8 netflix mamacita :P!!
i could find tons of films, i could never find in any locale joints. -
mersy - netflix is super- dependable, bordering on the unbelievable. You should try it out.

I am such a fan of Netflicks. Why bother with any place else. The "watch now" feature lets you stream movies from their site, with no extra fee involved. Great feature .. the visual on your computer is not so terrific but definitely passable.
the other night we were out of movies. Husband insisted that he wanted to walk around the corner to Hollywood Video. He joined... we joined.. He brought home Patch Adams... ech.. bleh.. We watched it. Next day I passed the store and said what the hay I will go in and rent a disc... I couldn't find anything! Part of the problem is the lighing. The place gave me the beginning of a migraine with all that fourescent strange lighting.
I walked out empty handed.
Netflicks is beyond reliable. They tell you the film will arrive on Tues.. most of the time it arrives on Monday!
Yeah I like the idea of the mom and pop anything store but as far as video goes I want the largest data base that is easy and fun the browse. I sit here and scratch my tummy and drink wine and choose films... how much better can you get than that. -
no no you guys, i have netflix. have had it for years, and i love it. i just don't want to have to rely on the mail to get the movies that I need week by week. I want to be able to be more spontaneous in what I choose. My class is taught on fridays and I want to be able to view films days before I show them to the kids. What if my film from netflix doesnt show up until friday afternoon, and I need it for that day?
Thats why i was asking about video stores, so I'm covered. -
Netflix is fine, it's the post office, especially in Brooklyn, that I am worried about. They lost so many of my Netflix movies that I eventually gave up my membership. But I guess that's a story for another thread
IMHO, the South Slope desparately needs a good video store for those spontaneous movie moments.
The video store on 8th Avenue around 12th Street has really good selection, too. -

You're thinking of Reel Life. I've never been, but I hear good things about their selection and staff knowledge.
