guinea fowl a foul in Green-Wood? — Brooklynian

guinea fowl a foul in Green-Wood?

We had a great wake up call approx. 3:00 AM this morn and again sometime after 5:00 AM...

"What the heck is that!" "Sounds like someone need new shocks in their car [snicker]." "What in the hell is that noise?"

During breakfast, we found out. As the combo of creaky bed springs + honking ("kutuck-kutuck") alerted us again, we we went to the front door to find a odd looking bird across 23rd St. below the Green-Wood fencing attempting to get back in. After many funny photos (attached) A worker came over on the Green-Wood side and I (looking like an idiot) ran around and caught the turkey sized bird. According to a Jamaican worker tearing up the street, "that's a guinea chick [hen]...good eating. Lays good eggs."

Actually a "guinea fowl," native of Africa, our escapee we think was first spotted and reported on by curbed.com 2-3 weeks ago on the 25th St. gate side, had gotten lost and could not make the hop back into Green-Wood. I gave her a boost, a Green-Wood employee "escorted" her away from the fence adding to the flora and fauna of Green-Wood...

We told Green-Wood that if they find a nest and eggs, we get first dibs!
