Arson on parked cars in the Slope. — Brooklynian

Arson on parked cars in the Slope.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the apparent torching of several cars on Sixth St between 4th and 5th last night.

Curbed has the story.

  • A scene out of the Paris banlieue - and Red Hook earlier this Summer - http://gowanuslounge.blogspot.com/2007/07/car-burning-season-again-in-red-hook.html

    What could be the cause?

    Poll:
    1. Disaffected youth bored out of their minds
    2. Serial arsonist
    3. A pretty effective anti-gentrification, anti-commercialization protest
    4. A mentally-challenged Luddite
  • Yeah I read this on Brownstoner.
It smacks of childhood angst to me. I just don't get it.

disaffected youth bored out of their minds who will eventually become serial arsonist because they are mentally challenged.

God there's something so beautiful about seeing a Park Slope Subaru station wagon half-incinerated. Next time I hope they get a Volvo one instead.

LOL! I am dying to see the first burned Hummer pics!
  • Maybe you'd like to grow a pair of balls and put your name and address to that post so I can come over to your house and burn something that belongs to you?

wait a min.... being nice is rule but this guy/girl doesn't get called out for threatening someone.
  • ONCE AGAIN...

    1) Don't assume because you don't see someone being taken to task for their posting that it does not happen. Mods prefer to do that via pm so as to avoid a discussion of the administration of the boards on the boards rather than discussing the subject at hand. If we call you out publicly its usually because it involves guest posters we can't pm or the majority of posters are over the line.

    2) All of the mods and admins are volunteers and are not necessarily able to react at a moments notice to a post. Sometimes it might take hours for one of us to pop up. We all have lives and jobs just like you guys.

    3) If you want to ask about why someone is being treated a certain way or complain about the behavior of another poster or anything else, either put it in the Ask Brooklynian thread or pm a mod directly.

    That is all...
    :!:

Anytime handsome - why don't you just PM me and we'll meet for a beer and discuss your evolution as a human being and also your well-developed sense of humor. And just so we're clear IMHO Hummers are the most evil wheeled vehicles on Planet Earth.

I'm from the old Slope, kid, back when having your car burnt was on the better side of things that could happen to you.:wink:
  • I saw a torched car on 2nd St. today (bet 4th-5th aves). Any other recent sightings? I find this sad, reminds me of NY in the bad old days when there was so much petty crime.
  • I like to imagine these crimes are commited by roving gangs of cyclists that have taken their "one less car" slogan to seriously.

I blame Greenpeace. Last time I saw them in Washington Square, they were REALLY pushy...
  • Subject: burnt cars

I saw what looked like the remnants of another burnt car on 17th st. btw 5th and 6th. Having seen the cars on 6th St, this spooked me! I smelled the burned rubber before seeing the broken glass and shredded car parts. Anyone know anything?
  • i could see tagging a car bur buring it? Seems high risk to me.
  • Some people will do anything to for a parking space
  • they should get one of those japanese cars thats even smaller than the fortwo.

With a touch of paint and new windows it could probably be marketed as a co op
  • They did it for the lulz.
  • The tires on my car were slashed two weeks ago on St Johns Place at 5th.

    It sucked.
