His name's Tyril Frith. I used him several years ago for my (now 13-yr-old) dog; he's great!
His website is here:

do you know how much he charges?

I don't remember, snazzybangs, but it's been 10 or 11 years since I used his services, so I'm sure his prices have changed anyway. As I recall he was no more, and possibly less, expensive than other trainers offering similar training packages.

cool - thanks for the info!

So I spoke to Tyril (incredibly nice guy), but he says he uses shock collars for training an aggressive dog. I'm not to keen on that. Any thoughts anyone?

shock collars? sounds like an extreme case.
I see Tyril doing his group classes in Prospect Park all the time -- by conventional means. He's the only trainer I know people have worked with, but you could try calling a vet for others... -

Shock collars, when used appropriately, aren't as extreme as most people think. It should be just enough shock to get their attention, but not to harm - about the same intensity as a leash correction. If you're really concerned about it, ask him if you can put one on your hand and try it - I'm sure that reservations about the technique are nothing new to him. -
I agree with Whyfi. A shock collar should never be turned up so high it harms the dog, and if used correctly, timing-wise, you shouldn't need to administer a shock more than a couple times. I've never used Tyril but I've seen his classes in the park and was always very impressed. There was a Canine Good Citizen test held in the park this past spring and about a dozen dogs from his class turned up - all looked incredibly well-behaved. There's an interview with him in one of the old Fido newsletters, if you want a better idea of his approach - www.fidobrooklyn.org .
