Jackhammering on Myrtle
The city is breaking up the asphalt on Myrtle, as I'm sure others of you have noticed. However, how is it okay of them to be jackhammering at this hour of the night? It's midnight and there are two dudes on the corner of Myrtle and Spencer hammering away. I know they have to do it at *some* point during the day, but this seems ultra late.

CHECK WITH 311 -
I had already tried that, but thanks.

What did 311 say?

Yeah I'm curious what they said. Do city workers have an exemption or something?

They had no idea what was going on, no record of work being done in the area, and just kept telling me the commercial regulations (no jackhammering after 6 pm). They said someone would be dispatched from the DEP, but I didn't see anyone, and it definitely went on until at least 1:30 AM. It was obviously a city crew, so i guess they were exempt from noise pollution codes? Either way, it wasn't pleasant.

Often street work is contracted out, especially when its done by utilities (Con Ed, Keyspan) or the cable companies. So it may not have been a crew sent out by the city at all. I think if you call 311 and they say there is no permit, you can call the precinct and say there is illegal work going on. They may not come right away, but you'll probably get a quicker response than from DEP.

Was it utility work (power or sewers) or was it the repaving they're currently doing?
Two nights recently I've seen Myrtle completely closed down as they tear up the entire road and resurface it.
As a Myrtle bike rider, the new pavement was looooong overdue and is very nice.
