NE patriots taping defense - thoughts?

Actually I find the lawsuit filed by a Jets fan against the Pats and Belichek more interesting than the actual filming incident.
-
Interesting indeed.
By far, the Patriots are still far superior than most teams and I would make the argument that they would have won those games anyway....its one of those things that will be hard to prove. but jests players always said, it felt like the Patriots knew exactly what they were doing before they did it....
Will they get an asterisk ( like Barry Bonds ) on their championships won...?
Tom Brady deserves an asterisks for the babes he's pulling!! huu-rah!! -
NE became impossible to beat at the exact moment that Drew Bledsoe got hurt and Tom Brady replaced him.
-
I am looking forward to another AFC, NE/ Indy championship game. To me, that is the real Super Bowl. The Bears have shown themselves to not be a contender in the NFC so far (with Grossman at QB). The NFC teams are not as good as either Indy or NE.
Brady and the Patriots are my pick to win the whole thing this year and the fact that Randy Moss is now part of the team makes it even more exciting.
The Patriots are gong to use the whole "taping scandal" as a point to prove it doesn't matter, and will make "examples" out of every team they play- especially the Jets. -

Almost certainly that second one there. The Patriots are a good team with good players, sure, but they've been able to do waaaay too much with what they have had. Oh, right, it's coaching - I forgot what a genius Billy B. was in Cleveland. ESPN.com has done some good pieces on the subject, and I agree with their assertion that the NFL's response (destroying everything and refusing to say anything meaningful about the materials) indicates that the Pats were cheating a lot more than anybody might have imagined. -
Everybody tries to steal signals, the Pats are just guilty of doing it with a camera. Binoculars? Go ahead! Camera? Bad boys!
Oh, for the record, I'm not a Pats fan. -

Them's the rules, and they knew it. If I was trying to crack signals, I'd definitely like to have a video record that I could review and compare with other signals, show to my coaches, use to build a database, etc.
Oh, for the record, I'm not a Pats fan.
The use of binoculars has none of those benefits. Since it's 1) Less effective, and 2) Tougher to enforce a ban, well, have at it if you must. The "line" is often drawn in arbitrary places, but I don't think this is entirely true in this case.
Anyhow. Wouldn't you love to know what was in the Patriot's Big Book of Cheating? I would. I'd like to know how big or small of a deal this really is. The NFL's stiff penalty and rush to destroy (WTF?) the stuff makes me think it was pretty damned big. -
After trying to watching that NE/ Cincinnati game last night it is pretty apparent that the patriots are the best team in the NFL and could possible go undefeated this year... I just don't see anyone beating them - including the Colts.
Looking forward to Dallas/ NE in Dallas though...might be a good one. -
I watch more football than any sane person should and while the Pats deserve whatever punishment they get, there's no way I would ever asterisk their Super Bowl wins.
Tom Brady is one of the two greatest QBs of his generation. Bill Belichek is the best coach of his generation. And the Pats front office is consistently among the best in the league.
There's no way that videotaping signals accounts for the Pats' success. -
a better punishment for NE would be to transfer brady and moss to the woeful jets
-
poor, poor Jets.
-
If they haven't done any harm, there's no harm in knowing what they've done. Me, I'm curious.
-
The patriots look completely unstoppable at this point.
-
It'll be a good game in Dallas...
-
I am thinking the cowboys are about to lose 2 in a row.
They are going down tonight in Buffalo and the Patriots are going to take them in Dallas too (+14 pts). They will be 4-2 in 2 weeks....
I am still not a believer in Big D just yet.
Did you see the Chicago game last night - signs of 'old' Favre were coming back...careless desperate throws across the middle...for interceptions.
Colts vs. Patriots in AFC championship: Patriots win super bowl this year...NFC team is irrelevant.
Saints...wtf? -
As a life-long Cowboy hater I don't see how they could lose to Buffalo tonight. Buf is horrible.

Yeah, I don't see the Cowboys losing tonight, either...
I will say, however, that both the Patriots and the Cowboys have wins over teams that looked impressive based on last year, but are lookin' mighty damned flawed 5 weeks through the season - Brady & Co dismantling the 'Bolts doesn't look so impressive after the 'Bolts 3 subsequent games and the Cowboys over Da Bears doesn't look so impressive after the Lions put up 34 in the 4th quarter against the monsters of the midway last week, either... this'll be the first real test for both, I think. -
re:cowboys...
we'll see....
hey, what about this as an idea:
the last 4 games of MNF should be decided by the standings in december.
for example, this would avoid a boring chargers/ saints game at the end of the year -a game that may have no meaning.
what do you think? ticket issues?
P.S.: I wish they would bring back the original music from the seventies...I f*cking hate that improv hank williams, country, bullsh*t!! Who thinks that is even cool?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOmcLIzIuzc -
its not too late to call me a genius for picking the bills....right now its 24 to 22 in the 4th quarter (Bills)...but we'll see how it plays out...
The cowboys opponents this season have a combined record of 5-15...they really aren't THAT good yet. Next year they will be better, but they will lose this game...
[edit: score and quarter change]
LOL OMG they won!!!!!! WTF!!!!
25-24- YOU guys are the geniuses!!LOL
:!: -
It either a) takes a REALLY shitty team to lose a game when they're +5 on takeaways or b) takes a team with a lot of gumption to win when they're -5 on takeaways... That shit just doesn't happen.

Yo,
Did you watch that game?
That was the worst performance by a team that I have even seen win the game. How did that happen? Buffalo's offense never scored (Romo gave them all of their points) and then the kick-off return.
I gotta give it to Romo, even with 5 picks (6 turnovers), he lead his team to victory. That was a character builder right there - some real Elway sh*t. It was as if They had already lost 3 times and then won the game.
So does Romo's stock go up or down because of this game? He was really careless and sloppy. The Pats are looking at this game film closely...he can't do that next week or they will lose by 30 points.
Still going with the Patriots over Dallas next week.
They are playing perfect football. -
Nah - don't have cable (don't have a TV, technically) and I didn't feel like going out to watch the game; I only got to read up on it after the fact.
As far as the upcoming Dallas/Pats game... my pick before last night was the Pats. My pick after last night is the Pats. If Buffalo can rattle Romo's cage that much, the Pats will run similar schemes, I think. Difference is that the Pat's O isn't going to let a sloppy team hang around. -
It sucks that they moved these games to cable! Seriously.
So tomorrow is 'D-Day'. I'm going with:
New England 38
Dallas 14
-----------------
Brady: 3 TDS, 1 Int
Romo: 1 TD, 2 Int
Moss: 2 TDs
Owens: 1TD
NE will be undefeated until late in the season: 13-14 and 0. -
Do ya think that T.O. is feeling a little silly about his "video camera" TD celebration about a month back?
-
Whyfi,
Who do you have with the Pats/ Colts?
I gotta go with the Patriots.
I watched the AFC championship game highlights from January and the Pats were 2 dropped passes away from beating the colts. ( colts 38/ pats 34)
I think they solved the receiver problem this year.... -
Gotta go with the Pats.
The Colts have been scrappy and they've found ways to win. The Pats have been dominant all year. I'm a Vikings fan, and in '98, the Vikes were dominant (although it looks like the Pats will smash the '98 Vikes scoring record), but I was always anxious to learn how they would respond when really challenged. Well, they failed miserably when finally challenged by Atlanta in the NFC Champeenship. The Pats, on the other hand, lost the lead in the 2nd half to the Cowboys... they responded by turnin' it on and scoring 20 some odd unanswered points. They're scary. -
I would not count the Colts out so quickly. The Colts have beat the Pats three straight times now (including once in the playoffs). Granted the Pats have improved their offense since then, but that won't mean much when the Colts drain the clock and keep Brady and Co. off the field, which is what they did the last time they beat the Pats. I'm having a really hard time picking this game...
-
N.E. coach bill belichick seems to be intentionally running up the scores on his opponents to respond to the whole "taping" controversy. His players have used it as a rallying point and to show support for him.
If the Colts do not win on Sunday, The Patriots cold darn well go undefeated and will at least have home field advantage in the play-offs. The Colts are the only team that even comes close to having a chance but I don't see it happening...
This Sunday:
Patriots: 38
Colts: 31 -
Just to get back on topic of the original subject.
I found this to be hilarious by the NYPost. I missed it when it first happened!
The asterisk and "caught cheating"! Brilliant
-
So the Patriots look, um, unstoppable at this point...
Looking forward to next year if this keeps up.
Perfect 16-0 on the season.
Wow.
Howdy, Stranger!
