welcome to the neighborhood.
i've never been to oshima. but i should try it.
i live further south. if you ever are down that way, I must heartily recommend my stand by take-out sushi place which is hole in the wall KIKU SUSHI on 7th Ave btwn 15-16th street.
They are super fast and fresh and TASTY!!
get the KIKU KING ROLL!!! -
my favorite is Mura 5th ave between 5th and 6th st. great deals and very fresh. when I order delivery they throw in some japaneese bubble gum or sometimes a little fruit salad for free.

i live right around the corner from oshima and it is indeed amazingly good.
the fish is always so fresh and the back garden is great.
had a really terrific salad there once too...
i always wonder if a lot of people know about it.
i have to say it rivals blue ribbon sushi although i love it there too... -
Another vote for Mura. Always fresh, beautifully presented in a Restaurant that has simple decor and a nice vibe. The garden season is coming to an end butI was eating there once a week all summer.

Suki Sushi is brand spanking new on 5th Ave by 18th St. It's pretty good, and very cheap.

Egads!! My beloved Kiku (which one, I wonder) received only 4% of the votes. I demand a recount!
Ah don't feel bad.. We need a new poll. PS has gone through some Sushi changes since Feb 06... -
Ack! How disturbing to read a thread about sushi (or any food, really) with the picture Chance has in his/her profile. Is that what it looks like? A fetus in a jar????

you are correct, its a fetus from the pathology lab in a hospital I worked at. the story is the mother went into labor prematurely. the baby didn't survive of course, there was no consent for an autopsy. she left the hospital suddenly and didn't even come back to take the baby for a burial. this is not the first time something like that has happend (there were many more jars). its not baby that I consider disturbing, its the mother. -
As suggested by its tie for first place in the poll linked to in a previous comment, Geido, on Flatbush at the intersection of 7th Avenue, is great!

Yeah no kidding.. that ethical explanation made me even less willing to look at that avatar. Just be a nice person and set it up so we look at something that is more pleasant when we read your posts.. Thanks.
