baby gifts — Brooklynian

baby gifts

Is there any place around where I can get a gift for a one-year-old baby that is relatively inexpensive, but not completely cheap and chintzy?

Comments

  • i think Corduroy Kid (613 Vanderbilt Ave) is great but "relatively inexpensive" is relative
  • Well, this baby party is in the suburbs (and I happen to know that some of the other invitees are bringing rather lavish gifts) so something from the dollar store is out.

However, I really don't want to spend more than say, $20, because I'm broke.
  • Subject: baby toys

You can get rather simple things for a one year old. My kids loved this Fisher Price type plastic bowl that looked like a gold fish bowl and it had balls that were see through with fish and stars and other things inside taht spun around and the purpose and fun of it was putting the balls into the bowl. Simple...yes, but it's a one year old. Or you could get several either cardboard or plastic books for the baby that are age appropriate. Babies love to look through books and these are durable, safe and inexpensive enough that you could probably get a couple of them for your budget.
It's always great to encourage children to gain an interest in reading and learning.
We had a Golden Book (the square kind that are about 15 pages and have the gold binder) that was called "Home for a Bunny" and to this day my kids, husband and I can quote verbatim that whole book cause the kids loved it so much.
    Have fun
  • they do have cute, relatively inexpensive stuff at corduroy kid. or just go to target.
  • You can find some high end baby clothes, something they'd wear for special occaisions, at Century 21 for a fraction of the price. Winter's coming, you could maybe find a nice little wool sweater. They're always getting dirty/wet at that age, so extra stuff like that is nice to have.
  • i agree with guest: a century 21 or filene's basement or daffy's would be great. you can find some dynamite clothes for very little.
  • Actually if you want to shop in the neighborhood, there are a number of children's clothing stores on Kingston on the south side of eastern parkway. They tend to have nice, more traditional clothes as they cater to the large hasidic families in the neighborhood. You can probably find something non-trendy and reasonable for a one year old.

    Go wander and look around.
  • What's the cross street for Corduroy Kid?
