are those they rare? cause most of the time i see grey squirrels.

I never ever seen a black one before.

  • I don't think they are so rare. In my backyard I see 0ne black for every 9 grey. But no matter what color they all rip apart the potted plants and are a nuisance.
  • you guys read the article about squirrel hunting in the times magazine...interesting.
  • Hunting squirrel and then cooking them... now that's interesting.

  • I lived in the Bronx for a few years, and I used to see them all the time there, especially and the grassy areas along the Pelham Parkway medians. I grew up in Brooklyn, and had never seen them before that.

Now I was inbetween ech and giggling while watching that. The ultimate imagine it gave me though was stepping out on my back porch with a shot gun and bagging one of those suckers.. preferrably a black squirrel and then bringing him in to the kitchen and cooking him up. The lovely smells waffing out to the back porch could serve as warning to the other mf's who are back there eating my plants!
  • In Stuy Town, all the squirrels are black.
  • They have them in Brooklyn Heights.
Just goes to show it's not all gentrified yet :P
  • I've seen a lot of all-black squirrels in my neighborhood (Ditmas Park/ Beverley Square West). They are gorgeous. I never saw any in the Slope.
  • first time i saw one in brooklyn. i was like dang poor little guy.
  • It's still pretty rare (and exciting) to see black squirrels in PP. This is the first year I've seen them with any frequency.

Last week I saw a WHITE squirrel, presumably albino, just south of the Picnic House.

I was there with my sick dog, and hoped it was not some sort of omen for her, called to the afterlife. But just in case, anyone else seen the albino squirrel?
  • wow never seen any white/albino ones before. they must be the rarest of them.

you could see it as a good omen too. seeing something rare instead of omen for the afterlife for your doggy.
  • I've seen a couple of black squirrels in the park - I think they're definitely outnumbered by the grey ones. I saw red squirrels in Canada!
  • Subject: confirming albino squirrel

i too have seen the albino squirrel near the picnic house - once last weekend and again on columbus day...
  • I've only started seeing them this year. On a slightly related topic, my cousins have one in their backyard. One of their daughters mentioned it in her class just last week, and was told by her teacher "there is absolutely no such thing as a black squirrel." In your face, Mr. Teacherman!
  • should send in a photo to that teacher lol.

btw interesting article on the red ones in england in nytimes. http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/07/magazine/07squirrels-t.html?ref=europe

me too! stopped me and hubby dead in our tracks. i'd never seen one before. actually i'm glad you saw it recently -- i saw it over two months ago, so that means it's still alive and kickin'!
