Corcoran has a gentrification map
http://www.brooklynpaper.com/stories/29/40/29_40corcoran.html
Maybe this is old news, I'm not sure, but it looks like Corcoran just officially got exposed for discriminatory real estate practices.
And, judging from the tiny online graphic of the map, looks like we're safely in their "up and coming" area.

Four white investigators posing as yuppie homebuyers were flashed the doctored street map — complete with hand-drawn boxes and red arrows identifying neighborhoods considered to be “changing” for the better as well as established enclaves of young professionals.
A Corcoran Group employee directed the undercover agents to Park Slope, Windsor Terrace, Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn Heights and majority-black Prospect Heights, which fell in to the category of “changing.”
Four black investigators, posing as buppies, weren’t shown the map.
Hilarious.
That's a serious charge they're gonna be faced with. I hope they nail those douchebags to the wall. -
I am not surprised. Just another form of racism that exists and is quite prevalent nowadays. I am sure others are doing the same but probably havent been exposed yet. What neighborhoods were the buppies steered towards I wonder? What a disgrace. Shame on you Corcoran.

And in other news, Heath and Michelle are buying in Brooklyn...

Subsequent edit addition, moved to separate post:
Hi folks, back again.
I should note here that any jokes with regard to the old nature of this news item are not meant to diminish the fact that the subject here, discrimination in the marketplace (and various persons' workplace there) is a truly despicable practice, and I was appalled (like many) when originally hearing of this.
With real estate as ridiculously expensive as it is these days, I can understand a large percentage of prospective owners and/or potential renters asking "where are the more affordable, up-and-coming neighborhoods" (as that would seem to be a common question anywhere in real estate, just as might similarly asked for the stock/futures/currencies markets or any other significant investment where affordability and risk/benefit analyses are part of the process), but the above example clearly took that several unfortunate extensions further into apparent discrimination and preferential treatment for some and limited offerings and treatment of others solely due to the color of one's skin.
Upon re-reading my attempt at light humor here regarding the "old news" aspects of this thread, I hope I have not offended or detracted from the main issue which I agree is serious and definitely worth re-visiting and re-examining for news or progress updates well after the initial reports.
So, by all means, carry on with this.
Is there any news on the subject? What happened as a result?
It seems to me there were at least two separate issues in play here:
1) a map that perhaps may have had initially harmless intentions, which took a turn for the worse when executed (and/or later updated) in a particularly skewed manner, which was then perhaps shared with others who did not question its content, and then just plain hidden from various persons once it further evolved to become controversial and outright discriminatory in nature.
2) an overall apparent practice (by some agents, as alleged by the study conducted) of showing some neighborhoods and homes to some and not to others, apparently based on the color of one's skin
The two are directly connected, but to me should perhaps be regarded as two separate issues.
So, might as well asked since the OP here provided as good a time as any for an update...
What's up with this, lately? -
this is gross....i work for cnn and just pitched this story....hopefully they decide to do it and expose these douchebags....

So in other words: Real estate agents purposely steer blacks away from gentrifying neighborhoods, because they know that whites are less likely to buy in neighborhhods with lots of African Americans? Is that what I'm to understand?
Not about race my ass. -
here's a post from last year about this:

might as well merge the two topics.

ny as a whole back in 1995 was still very segregated by race still. now days its economic.
-
It is a tradition in Park Slope. It happened to my parents years ago, with the same exact firm in Park Slope. Now I understand why my mom (god bless her soul) was so mad at the time. I was a kid then. Obviously, my fam settled in prospect heights. All for the better now that I think about it.

Sometimes it's about economics, but plenty of the time it's still about race.
(This is a carry-over discussion from several other threads)
