All that trickery won't get you far these days - at least not without a good dose of luck. I've seen a few more elaborate schemes than that get pwned.

I find it incredibly ironic that people would go to any length to put their children in a place like P.S. 321. That place is like a bootcamp for kids on their way to amount to nothing, just take a look at how they act. Just like the ghetto schools but on the other end of the spectrum.
Reminds me of "The Gifted Child Program" that was run down at 51's when I was in grade school. A bunch of mothers from the catholic school I was attending had their kids interview for it, including mine. I was accepted, but didn't enter. All the other acceptees did. Last I heard, the graduates of that 'prestigious program' went on to fulfill such remarkable careers as 6th grade catholic school teacher, pilates instructor, and prison inmate.
Just have your kid read a lot when he's young, and then send him to a regular goddamn school. If he's bright enough, he'll come out shining. If not, well then welcome to the real world. -

First off being a teacher whether it be in public school or catholic or private school is an extremely honorable career and so is a pilates instructor. Im sure the majority of those people who chose that career do so because they really want to and want to make a difference and I for one cannot thank those people enough or give them enough praise.

And when it comes to your kids you do whatever you can to try and help them get the best advantages they can especially when you cannot afford to enroll them in special programs or if you cannot afford to send you kid to catholic/private school -
Restless Native.. your opinion made me laugh. I was laughing at the truth of what you said. I was laughing in relief that all 3 of my kids were in that 51 gifted program and none of them turned out to be anything that you suggest.. though to be honest they did have friends who landed up as criminals. Two of my kids were actutally in that gifted program the first year it started and the administration was so careful about mixing these kids up with the general population that they had a system of "clubs" during lunch... the clubs were in the classroom and lunch was brought to the kids!
I agree with you that real education has much to do with the home. When people8 ask me how I raised such special people I tell them the one idea that made all the difference ... We had no TV in the house. -

Your kids and I must be around the same age then, it started up in the late '80's, no??

And Stacey, my point wasn't that a 6th grade catholic school teacher isn't a meaningful career (as for pilates instructor, that's another story
), my point was that any of those kids could've gone through a 'regular' school and done just fine.. maybe even better. I've got numbers of friends that went to 'ordinary public schools' outside of the 'sought after school zones' that went on to do amazing things.
