Men's Haircuts — Brooklynian

Men's Haircuts

Subject: Men's Haircuts

I have tried to find a decent place to get a man's haircut for the past few years but have come up empty. Everything is either too expensive or a complete hack job.

Any suggestions? Looking for a good haircut in Park Slope around $40.

  • I too am surprised at how easy it is to get a bad men's cut around here. My bf finally just started getting it buzzed after several really bad cuts.

Last weekend we decided to stop by Marios (name on sign outside, really it's now Eve's) on 5th between 5/6 Streets I think. There's a girl that I really like there for my long hair (I can't remember her name!)--she's young and wears glasses and I think usually has two-toned hair. She cut his hair (short cut not a buzz) and it was best haircut he's gotten in the 2.5 years we've been here. Plus, it's only around $20.

If you find some where you love in the nabe, post details here for all to see :)
  • I have thick, curly hair and it grows quick (my hair that is).

I've had $10 cuts, $25 cuts, $150 cuts and everywhere in between.

For my money Levi at La Bella wins hands down.

Can't beat it. Also, it's right in the price range you want. He does women also (their hair that is)

I have been going to Maio's for my womany cut for a long time. I use Evelyn.. thin, long blond hair. It is hit or miss.. sometimes it is a great haircut and sometimes really bad.. on the bad ones I go back in afew days and she fixes it. Only point I am making is it is as hard for men to get a good haircut as it is for women.

My husband had recently given up and shaved his head.. he looks great though!
  • I go to Vincent's on Cortelyou Rd next to the Q subway stop, Vincent Jr and Vincent Sr are both good, $11.00
  • Arias on 5th ave and lincoln (I think). the cuts range from 12-14 bucks. they will cut your hair exactly the way you want it, just be specific. I love this place. also josephs on 7th ave somewhere by the gamestop is good too, a little more expensive ($21) but also give a decent cut.
  • i cut my own hair with this

but it's not good for facial hair
  • Head out of the Slope. Frank's Chop Shop.
  • I like Vincent at Element (formerly from Hair Concern). I got more compliments about my last haircut than I have in a while. I think they charge around $45 there for a men's cut.

  • not in the neighborhood, but i've never had a problem at astor haircuts (8th st. and b'way). kind of like a factory, but it's only $12, and everyone thinks i'm very handsome.
  • Are these prices including potential tips? Because I doubt I can drop $40 for a haircut right now, but $20 seems reasonable and leaves room in my pocket for tipping too.
  • my boyfriend recently started going to Vespa Salon on 7th btwn 15-16.

It's more money than he's probably ever paid for a hair cut ($30 plus tip) but they do a phenomenal job on his crown. I really do think it's worth it every now and again.

He also gets a free beverage every time he goes--espresso or a liqueur of some type.
  • Try Louie or Lorenzo, two Italian stylists (not just barbers) who will give you a great cut for under 20 on PPW between Windsor and Prospect.

And by the way, it's no secret that I'm a bit out of the loop, but when the f did MEN'S HAIRCUTS in this neighborhood start going for over 40 bucks?? For a HAIRCUT?? Judging from what I see on 7th Ave, you would think the men of Park Slope were letting their 3yr old brats cut their hair.
  • We tried a number of places on 7th when we first moved to the Slope. None were worth the money or of acceptable quality. Now I go to Dr Mike and Son on Church St in Tribeca. $13 baby!

Another vote for Levi. He's cut me twice, and I was very happy both times. By contrast, I've been to that old-time barbershop on 7th by 4th street two dozen times, and walked away with a good cut exactly once.

I keep walking to Clover (7th Ave corner 12th street) intending to take the plunge, but chickened out every time.

Not to pull an Applepants here by digging up an old thread but...

I visited Regina at La Belle (not La Bella as reported above) for the first time today based on the recommendations of La Belle here and on Yelp.

She did a *phenomenally* great job =D> , one off the best cuts I've had in a long time. Definitely coming back.

  • New recommendation: Biton on Vanderbilt. Shlome (sp?) is AWESOME.
  • Medusa on 7th.
  • Hands down - Levi at La Bella. He cuts my husband's hair so nicely, I love it!
