Rite Aid, 7th Avenue and 5th Street — Brooklynian

Rite Aid, 7th Avenue and 5th Street

Hi everyone,

Long time lurker, first time poster. :)

This morning I planned to go to Rite Aid when it's supposed to open (8 AM) to pick up a prescription before I headed to work. I arrived there just after 8 and the blinds were down and no one was there. I asked an employee when the pharmacy was supposed to open and he said that the phamacist had called in and was running late and would be there soon. Well, I waited around until 8:45 and no pharmacist. I finally had to go so I would get to my own job on time.

Basically, this isn't my first screw-up courtesy of the pharmacists at Rite Aid so I'm going to be moving my prescriptions to another pharmacy. Does anybody have any recommendations of a good pharmacy in the slope? It can be a chain or a "mom and pop" kind of place. I just want a place that opens when it's supposed to and doesn't screw up my prescriptions! Thanks!!

Neergaard's, either the 7th Avenue (Carroll Street) or 5th Avenue (9th Street) locations. The 7th Avenue location opens I believe after 9a.
And the 5th Avenue one is open 24/7.
Anything that I need that's unplanned is filled pronto.
  • The place on 8th and 8th is also great.

I've never had a prescription filled at that Rite Aid, but I have noticed that they stink at just about everything else. They carry a lot of garbage that shouldn't be taking up room at a pharmacy (toys, fax machines, video cassettes, beer) and don't carry things that they should - like, say, filters for the humidifier that I foolishly bought there.

Is it just me or do they stink, literally. Like, funky old people musty smell.
  • I'm always amazed at how SLOW the lines are....There could be one person in front of me or 20 and the line never moves. They don't ever seem to have enough cashiers, either. I'd much rather go to Eckerd's.

For a mom & pop place I use Oak Park in the circle (diagonal from the Pavillion). They fill stuff quickly, but they don't have late hours.
  • That Rite Aid is horrible.

I get prescriptions filled at the Ansonia drugstore, on 7th Ave between 10th & 11th or thereabouts. They are really nice people and they are actually helpful and proactive and will call your doctor if there is a problem with the prescription.
  • my boyfriend and i constantly have problems with rite aid. they either never put a request in for the prescription, or it's under the wrong name, or they put it under the brand name instead of the customer name. in addition, they are completely rude and difficult to deal with.

I went to Eckerd's last time, but I am thinking of switching to Neergaard's.

I agree, john is so helpful.
  • that rite aid is a blight on the neighborhood. They are always horribly understaffed and understocked.
  • Ansonia pharmacy on 7ave bet. 10 & 11 st. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Been going there for years. Rite Aid is a pig sty. Horrible variety if they have stock, messy shelves. I had to run in before on my way to Tarzan and they had one shelf on the aisle with t-shirts thrown in. Not even folded. They have more junk than drug store items. CVS is much better.
  • The Rite Aid Pharmacy on 7th Ave & 6th St. is HORRIBLE!

I'm barely middle class and the other day when I handed the woman behind the register a twenty dollar bill, she demanded, "don't you have anything smaller?" When I said "no," she huffed in my face, "it must be pay day! Everyone but me must be rich."

The phramacy is a waste of space. If you use it, check your bag before you accidentally walk out the door with your neighbor's birth control instead of your heart medication.

The Rite Aid pharmacies of uptown Manhattan are lousy too.
  • rite-aid--boo! like target with their policies about pharmacists refusing to sell birth control or plan b. BOO. hiss. boycott.

(personally, i'm in love with health aid pharmacy on 7th, next to the purity diner. they pick up your prescriptions--yea, the paper ones--and bring them to the pharmacy to be filled, then deliver them. )
  • Health Aid pharmacy a block away from Methodist on 7th Avenue is excellent! Try them!
  • Thank you all for the replies! I will definitely be checking out all your suggestions.
  • If you take the Q or B, Kings pharmacy on Flatbush is great. They have or can get meds that other pharmacies have trouble with.
