Child’s chalk doodle draws graffiti citation

good grief! how ridiculous -- stupid freakin' neighbor. listen, i don't have any children of my own and sometimes kids' art leaves something to be desired in the aesthetics department. but it's CHALK and it's TEMPORARY and they are CHILDREN, for god's sake. personally, i always get a kick out of kids drawing on the sidewalk -- they always seem happy to have a creative outlet like that. who the hell ARE these people?!?!

How ridiculous!! When I grew up in Brooklyn Chalk was issued to every child so they could make Hop Scotch Boards on the sidewalk and start their lives as artists.
-
I've never heard of any letter, nor a fine that could be imposed for chalk on the sidewalk. The NYPD does not issue summonses for Graffiti/chalk flowers.
-
kid should of been caned and tasered!! first its chalk around her stoop and side walk. next thing you know, she'll spray paint other buildings with her tag.
soon after that she'll be dealing around the corner and playing dice!
 -
I saw this on the news the other day. Park Slope over-entitlement might have reached its zenith. Now here's a question: Does the moron who called in for vadalism get a ticket for wasting everyone's time, energy and oxygen? This is more akin to making a false report, isn't it.
A while back a friend of mine, a long-time/old-school sloper, got a warning from the police that was called on him for firing up the summer Hibachi on his stoop. He's done this for years.
This is the same block where I saw a some angry lawyer-ish idiot screaming at a livery driver at the top of his lungs. "F--- you, we are not that kind of nieghborhood! Honk your f----' horn somewhere else, you mother f-----! " repeatly, then something about comprosising his family's quality of life and then telling the driver going back to where he came from (Queens?)
Note: The driver honked once. I have my suspicions as to who made the Hibachi call. -
i agree with you, KWoC, but in this case it was the Sanitation Dept, not NYPD. apparently it has to do with the City Counsel's local law 111. Brooklyn Paper has more details than the msnbc article:

Subject: cranky neighbor
It's a good think the so called neighbor who called the Sanitation Dept doesn't live in Crown Heights, where body outlines in chalk are common -

I so agree with you - BUT - there have been people on THIS board complaining about having to walk around children drawing on the sidewalk. -
the chalk outlines are more common in east ny or brownsville than crown heights.

***************Thx, i better adv. the malcontent to bypass those areas. -
Complaints of Graffiti are dispatched to NYPD, not Sanitation. Presently there are no laws on the books that prevent people from drawing on their own property. However the sidewalks are City owned, therefore silly laws could be enforced for such offenses. Graffiti is a Crime and the offender would be subject to an arrest, a 6 year old is not even eligable for a Juvenile Report. The story is defenitely missing a few chapters.
-
i hope someone throws the books at the person who complain about the kid.

Is this a joke? Was I reading the Onion? What's going on?
Yes, if it is true, it kills me that cops are wasting their time with such stoop-related stoopidness when people are getting mugged and raped. I hope not one penny of my taxes goes to erase chalk on someone's stoop.
Chalk! It was only chalk? No permanent ink was involved? And a moron called the cops?
I hope real spray paint tags stain the complainer's entire home. Then the complainer will have a good reason to cry.
Then again, maybe the neighbors just hate each others' guts and this is just part of a war that's been escalating. However, if the complainer was more upset about a noise level or something else the kid might have done (i.e. kid was shouting nonstop between hours of 6AM and 8AM, preventing the neighbors from sleeping) than the neighbor should complain about that to the kids' parents and give them a chance to correct the kid's behavior. -
