and still doesn't answer the question of - WHERE can you let the dog urinate?
Not on a private anything or a public sidewalk or wall. Anywhere else is fair game, apparently. The gutter or street would be the prime place in my mind, barring talking a walk in a park.

I think it's a little unreasonable to stop dogs from peeing on a public sidewalk. Come on...it's New York...there's hardly any space for people to walk their dogs anyway. I totally agree that private spaces should be avoided, but how do you stop a dog from peeing on a sidewalk?

I have no idea, and I have not heard of anyone getting a ticket for letting their dog pee on the sidewalk. On the flip side, those little public planting spaces that everyone seems to complain about appear to be fair game under the law. FWIW.
  • Subject: that was uncalled for, but....

I believe this person's behaviour was totally uncalled for and borderline psychotic, but as a ground floor dwelling park sloper I do have some issues with dog owners/walkers. I think you are all generally really great about picking up after and/or curbing your dogs, but I do take issue with dogwalkers putting their bags of dog poo in my garbage can. I have to leave the garbage can near the front gate so it's not up against my window.....so of course it's fair game for poo-bag drop offs, but geez it stinks. please put your poo in your own pails and not mine. tyvm

just becazuse it's the city doesn't mean we should have to walk in urine--or worse, let our kids, who are far closer to the ground, walk in urine.

    it's gross.

and the dog shit situation has gotten worse everyone.

and puppycup, building garbage cans are PRIVATE cans. i'm not really sure why people think it's ok to dump their shit there.
  • Yes I have seen people throw dog poo in private garbage cans but I have walked a whole block to a NYC Sanitation trash can to dispose of it. And I have observed other people do the very same thing.

Since there are mostly Brownstones in PS there is no place the put trash cans except close to the gate and people just reach over, lift the lid and throw the poo in. It is really disgusting.
