Screw both of'em. We bring our canvas bags to the store (if the trip was planned, which they mostly are) - the handles are a lot easier on the hands, too.

i dont have anything fashionable to reuse. but i do recycle the plastic bags into garbage bags.

met foods on vandy is selling reusable canvas bags now, armchair, so no excuses!

i'm thrilled about that for two reasons -- one, people will buy and use the bags, and two, that means the cashiers all accept my own canvas and string bags without confusion.

I'm with AW. I get the plastic bags, but I never buy garbage bags. I just reuse the shopping bags for garbage.

Of course, now I have to figure out what to do with all those FD boxes...

we use plastic bags for kitty litter purposes, but i find i get plenty of those even if i use my own bags at the grocery. i will admit to buying garbage bags for the kitchen garbage, but i recently discovered that seventh generation bags from FD are cheaper than non-hippie ones. go figure.

I've found seventh generation products to be competitively priced with other products.

I have a canvas bag, but I suppose I should get some more. If anything else, stuff is less likely to fall out of my cart if it's in a canvas bag then if it's in its own tiny individual plastic bag, which is what you get when you buy only one item at a store. I lost a cheese that way.

and that they were going to start using bags, which is completely mystifying to me since it's truck delivery.
what are they telling customers?

The bargain store on the corner of Fulton and Bedford is selling medium-ish canvas bags for $1! I picked up a nice Alaska Gun Collectors bag yesterday, now if I could only remember to bring the bags with me... :?

they sent an email around recently saying that in 1-2 years they plan to switch entirely over into plastic boxes that will be reused - a measure I applaud. of course, not sure if what happens is that you have to unpack immediately or that you get to give the plastic back at next drop off, but either way, I look forward to that. I hate those fucking cardboard boxes.
