Store on corner of Myrtle Classon

I dont know- I have lived in the neighborhood for 4 years and it was always closed


They had the metal gates up the other day and the store front underneath is very cool , vintage brass with transom windows and vintage stained glass coca cola signs

There is now a sign above the door & Decals in the windows

Place is called Square Root Cafe

The gates were up but only saw construction

This place is taking longer the the Pillow to open up. I hope it has good coffee/food since I'm down the block from it. At least it's not a Starbucks. Read a rumor on the clinton hill blog that a starbucks is opening across from Kum Kau

I feel like I am totally stalking this place but..........

yesterday I spoke with the owner, the gates were up but the place is still under construction

nice guy, slightly older and I think he is a fireman or something (had an official looking sweathsirt with FDNY, some patches with his last name embroidered - not like the tourist shirts everyone buys)

He said they are opening Jan1st and are having a FREE opening day buffet of his favorite dishes as an introduction to the neigborhood

I told him I would post about it because FREE food is great idea and I will be there

Saturday passed by and gates were open and they have made big progress since last week. I didnt see the owner inside just some spanish dude

They have some awesome decorations, jukebox, old fashioned phone booth, vintage soda machine, some other stuff that I couldnt identify

They had a sign in the window confirming the FREE Brunch Buffet on Jan 1st between 1PM-5PM.


They have a website www.squarerootcafe.com- which isnt so great but found out the owner is a graduate of ICE

Joe and I want to thank everyone who came out today and joined us for the brunch. Everyone who came by were so nice, polite and understanding about the 1/2 hour delay

We are guestimating 250 people dropped by, we had a lot of fun and plan on making this a yearly tradition

Next year brunch will include coffee, tea & espresso drinks~ our machines were delayed and wont be installed until next week

I am making a personal apology about the mashed potatoes- last night sitting over a bag of 200 potatoes with the potato peeler in hand ~ I made the executive decision to serve boxed. The flavor wasnt bad but I added to much milk and the consistancy was too
watery.

We are officially opening January 18th with FREE WIFI and hope to see ya all soon
