Dog Twitching While She Naps
Our 9 year old lab does a lot of twitching when she naps during the day. Sometimes she even whimpers or yelps too.
For the most part I haven't been all that concerned about it and I've passed it off as simply doggy daydreams but now I'm not so sure. The reason I'm no longer so sure is that we recently brough another dog into our family and he doesn't exhibit any of those tendencies when he naps.
I'm wondering whether any other dog owners have noticed this about their dog.

My previous dog did that. I always imagined he was dreaming about running and playing. He didn't whimper much, as far as I remember. But his cute little paws would twitch. Does he exhibit any abnormal behavior during his waking hours?

I've had dogs my whole life, some have done just the twitching thing while sleeping and some have done the whole whimper, yelpy thing. I think it just depends on the dog, I wonder though if it has anything to do with the different breeds. My pitbull whimpers, woofs, huffs, and makes a number of other weird noises when she sleeps. My sheperd mix just does the twitching thing though.

Yep, I've had plenty of pups that were "active" sleepers. Some were much more vocal than others. I even remember one of them growling sometimes!
According to my fella, I'm can be pretty vocal (laughing, crying, talking, weird noises when sick) while sleeping so it's probably the same with dogs.
Probably nothing to worry about.
p.s. I miss having a dog! -
My dog does that when she doesn't get enough exercise. Labs are an active breed - if it's worrying you, I would try walking her more.

Well, it works for us humans. They say that exercise increases the quality of sleep. If you are twitching around, (or in my case, punching my fiance and hitting him over the head with a coffee mug  I'm dangerous when asleep!) you are not having high-quality rest.
It's probably the same for all mammals.
I suggest you cut his caffeine. (This is a joke. Caffeine is toxic for cats and dogs.) -
i finding doggies twitch cute hehe. my hot dog used to twitch his leg.
always thinking he is chasing down some cat on the farm in his dreams.
Howdy, Stranger!
