Any idea where this is? — Brooklynian

Any idea where this is?

http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/fee/453832901.html

ok, he said Prospect place sand Classon. Is that ok? Safe? Subway convenient? Stores nearby?

Also heard of another on Bergen btw. Bedford and Franklin.

Any advice on general parameters of where I should look?

  • that ad is for one of the jewish hospital buildings, managed by alma realty. do a search for jewish hospital on the Ch board and you'll find things.

if you have specific questions, you can PM me; i live there.

Both of these locations are in Crown Heights, no matter what a broker might try to tell you, so I'm going to move this to that board in the hopes that it will get you some more responses. I know the search function's harder to use right now, but you might try searching for the street names to see older threads; there have been a ton.

Prospect Place and Classon might be the Jewish Hospital. There's a Franklin Avenue Shuttle stop on that block, so subway's convenient.

If I'm thinking the right block, Bergen between Bedford and Franklin is a pretty block -- lots of old buildings. The next block west of there, though, between Franklin and Classon, is pretty deserted and industrial. I'd probably walk over to Prospect Place before heading west at night.
  • That is part of that Alma Realty complex... I live in their newest building around the corner on St. Marks...

I'm not gonna lie... there's a lot of crime, and it's pretty shady at night. Of the 6 friends I have in the area, 2 have been mugged/attacked in the past 2 months, and my roommate has seen an assload of crime. I however haven't seen anything. Also, everything is kind of a hike by foot... I have a car and a bike, I would definitely recommend getting a bike to get around with. There's a good shop on Vanderbilt and Bergen.

Other than that... you have access to 7 trains, you're 20 minutes from the city, a few blocks from Prospect Park, etc. There are a lot of great people here with a lot of things to do, and if you're smart and can put up with the shadiness you'll enjoy it here. I would stay another year if I could get a bigger room (the view of the city I have is overrated...)

And yea it's definitely Crown Heights, don't let them fool you like they did to us. You will see the dramatic change precisely @ St. Marks and Grand, basically where the two neighborhoods begin/end.
  • for your price you can live in park slope or prospect heights or bococa or fort greene.

thats very pricey for crown heights and safety wise its slighty better than bed stuy.
  • i just did a search in cl lol all the apts for prospect heights are like way into crown heights.

like rogers or bed ford and beyond LOL.

    god realty people suck!

I see in the ad that they claim to have laundry. Make sure that you actually see it.. IN USE.

I too was told that it was Prospect Heights, and when I signed the lease they told me that laundry facilities were forthcoming imminently. That was in over a year ago. I'm still waiting.
  • yeah, they told me that about the laundry too.

    in july.

    2005.

Does anyone know if any of the Alma Buildings in and around the Jewish Hospital have active Laundry Facilities.
  • I say, you get what you see when you sign the lease. Don't count on promised machines, fixed floors, etc.

Laundry can be a real pain. I really miss the laundrymat I used when I lived in the area. It's on Franklin between St. Johns and Lincoln. When I was there, that place was always open and I rarely, if ever, had to wait for a machine.

Since moving west of there, I've yet to find a place that convenient for doing my laundry. They all close really early and are so crowded that it takes forever to do a few loads.
