Lost/Stolen Dog — Brooklynian

Lost/Stolen Dog

Our spayed/F year and a half old Boston terrier Molly was stolen on south 2nd and Havemeyer on 10/19. Witnesses claim that a large dark skinned young man (eary 20s) took her off her leash while I put coins in the dryer. Witnesses also claim they saw her running up and down the streets by herself later that night on S.2nd & Hooper. She is 20 pounds, brindle/brown and white, with a spot on her head and two more on the upper part of her right paw. She's very affectionate and friendly and responds well to her name. There is a $2500 reward for her safe and timely return. Please call or text us at 917-583-2626 or 646-249-4539. A picture text also says a thousand words if you happen to see a dog you think is her. We are distraught and miss her very much. Thanks in advance for your assistance

  • Good luck getting Molly back. I'd suggest you also post a picture of her here.

Have you called all of the Vet's offices and posted her picture on all surfaces available in the area? We lost a dog for 28 days once and by due diligence, finally found her. She had travelled many miles and was starving, but we got her back home doing the above methods.
We also left flyers with a picture in all stores and with the police everywhere in case anyone called on finding a lost dog.
Someone may have taken her in and has no idea anyone is looking for her.
    Good luck
  • I'd be super wary of posting such a large reward -- everything I've read about lost dogs cautions against doing that. Say "reward," don't say how much.

Be prepared to get weird calls about the dog btw -- some well-meaning, some who only knows. I had to post my dog's picture on many lamposts a few years back, and it was really hard to deal with nutters calling in the middle of a dog search. Or people that were just idly curious about what happened.
Also, you may be offered a similar dog that's not yours, for the reward money. Someone says it's your dog, and then it's not.
    Awful, but it happens.

Good luck, and please post back what happens. There's been plenty of happy reunions - hope you get one.
  • I am sorry about your pooch. It's heart-breaking.
  • Thanks so much for the tips everyone. Yes, all of the crazies and morbidly curious have come out of the wood-work unfortunately but also some good people who are on the look out. We've posted at least 600 posters since Friday and counting, calling all vets and pets stores but there are so many. The story should be in the NY Daily news this week so maybe that will flush her out. There are so many conflicting theories on what to do as far as what to disclose etc. We're going with the theory that they cannot sell her for more than were offering and that their neighbor(s) might sell them out for the reward. I hope it doesn't last 28 days but getting her back alive and healthy is the goal so however long that takes....Thanks for keeping an eye out. I'm keeping the faith

Except that one of them fits the witnesses description of the thief. Keep an eye on your pooches because obviously this is their racket. Both are early 20s, Hispanic, one is around 5' 8" and thin with an angular face and collar length hair he wears in pony tail; the other is wide( over 200 lbs) and swarthy, around 5'10" with darkis skin and a patchy goatee...short hair. Both are of the thug variety. Jerks
