Lost/Stolen Dog — Brooklynian

Lost/Stolen Dog

Our spayed/F year and a half old Boston terrier Molly was stolen on south 2nd and Havemeyer on 10/19. Witnesses claim that a large dark skinned young man (eary 20s) took her off her leash while I put coins in the dryer. Witnesses also claim they saw her running up and down the streets by herself later that night on S.2nd & Hooper. She is 20 pounds, brindle/brown and white, with a spot on her head and two more on the upper part of her right paw. She's very affectionate and friendly and responds well to her name. There is a $2500 reward for her safe and timely return. Please call or text us at 917-583-2626 or 646-249-4539. A picture text also says a thousand words if you happen to see a dog you think is her. We are distraught and miss her very much. Thanks in advance for your assistance

  • Subject: Molly the Boston

That is horrible! I am so sorry to hear that---I have a Boston and after I read a flyer in the neighborhood that a dog was stolen while it was leashed outside of a store, I've kept my eye on it at all times. Do you have a picture to post? Good luck.
  • I have a Boston, too, and this post broke my heart. I cut and pasted it and emailed it to a few friends who live in the area that your dog was last seen in. Since Molly is distinctive looking let's hope somebody spots her.

Best of luck, I hope she comes back to you soon.
  • I saw your sign on Bedford on Monday night -- I'm so sorry. I hope that Molly is found safe & sound VERY soon. Bostons are my favorite breed!
  • posting a picture here would help. Sorry to hear about that, I hope you find her soon.

MollysMama wrote: Two young guys returned her for ransom last night. They said they found her wandering around their neighborhood and took her home to LI. Right. Except that one of them fits the witnesses description of the thief. Keep an eye on your pooches because obviously this is their racket. Both are early 20s, Hispanic, one is around 5' 8" and thin with an angular face and collar length hair he wears in pony tail; the other is wide( over 200 lbs) and swarthy, around 5'10" with darkis skin and a patchy goatee...short hair. Both are of the thug variety. Jerks
  • I am sorry. You lose your dog. You miss her. You post a $2500 (!) reward. And someone returns her for "ransom." And they are "thug types." And you call them jerks because they "match the description of those who take the dog." If you didn't want to pay "ransom" why did you offer money? And since you didn't see the thief, how can you be sure if these were the people who took her? Your last post is so loaded with racist undertones, I am beginning to think this whole thread is a nasty performance piece.

If you really lost your dog and got it back, be happy. But re-think who the jerk is here.
  • Okay, now I know it isn't a fake post. But still, what was the OP thinking when she offered a reward of TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS for the return of her dog? And paid TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS to the people she now thinks stole the dog (and I will grant, probably did). Wouldn't TWO THOUSAND (okay I'll stop) $2500 be an outrageous amount of money to offer as a reward? Was she thinking that she wouldn't have to pay that? Obviously if I found someone's dog, I wouldn't demand any payment. Maybe if I were twelve it would be nice to get $20 or $50 as reinforcement of doing the right thing in life. Yet here, knowing there was a chance her dog had been taken (by nefarious thug-types no less!), the OP decided to create a huge incentive for everyone else's dog to be stolen. Thanks a lot lady. In the future the dog which might have been ransomed for $100 or $200 will now cost us all TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS (I couldn't resist). What were you thinking?

I am surprised this was given so much attention that it made it into the daily news. Glad the dog is home but that was a hefty reward.I am sure they will do it again, easy bucks to be made. I would have stated reward offered but not posted an amount and given them a lot less than 2500 dollars.
  • I love P-D's logic here... that this owner is driving up the cost of dog ransoms all over Brooklyn.

While I do understand his POV, and think it's an outrageously large sum of money for returning stolen property, it's important to keep in mind that owning a dog in the first place is not a rational act.
