Molly's Back!!! — Brooklynian

Molly's Back!!!

Subject: Molly's Back!!!

Two young guys returned her for ransom last night. They said they found her wandering around their neighborhood and took her home to LI. Right. Except that one of them fits the witnesses description of the thief. Keep an eye on your pooches because obviously this is their racket. Both are early 20s, Hispanic, one is around 5' 8" and thin with an angular face and collar length hair he wears in pony tail; the other is wide( over 200 lbs) and swarthy, around 5'10" with darkis skin and a patchy goatee...short hair. Both are of the thug variety. Jerks

Congratulations on your reunion! I'm extremely relieved and happy that your family was reunited again. As a small dog parent who lives in the South 2nd / Havemeyer neighborhood (and who was deeply affected when the Pomeranian in our neighborhood was stolen), my heart goes out to your ordeal as I would be devastated if someone stole my little one. I'll be keeping a firm grip on her leash at all times, taking her into stores with me, and looking out for the guys that you've described.
    All the best.
  • I am sorry. You lose your dog. You miss her. You post a $2500 (!) reward. And someone returns her for "ransom." And they are "thug types." And you call them jerks because they "match the description of those who take the dog." If you didn't want to pay "ransom" why did you offer money? And since you didn't see the thief, how can you be sure if these were the people who took her? Your last post is so loaded with racist undertones, I am beginning to think this whole thread is a nasty performance piece.

If you really lost your dog and got it back, be happy. But re-think who the jerk is here.
  • taken your doggie back. and screw them on the reward.
  • MOD NOTE

i can't believe i'm having to say this on a thread about a found dog, but

    BE NICE.

You gotta be kidding. Wow , attatch this to your ACLU intern proposal.
    This will really get 'em.
    IDIOT.
glad Molly is home, racism and all.
  • Subject: Congrats on getting her back

I am so relieved you got her back, and if this were me and i thought there was at least a 50% chance these people were pulling a ransom gary sinise move I would write them a check (which i would immediately stop payment on) and get a PI to stalk them and once I was sure beyond a reasonable doubt, have them killed or permanently handicapped. I can't say that i am usually a violent person, but if anyone tried that shit with my boston I would probably want to delivery the crushing blow myself.
  • Daily News article
Heartbroken Williamsburg, Brooklyn, resident Stacey Grant seems to be the latest victim.

She took her eyes off her Boston terrier, Molly, for 90 seconds and the dog vanished outside a laundermat Friday.

"When I came out, all that was left was the leash and her ID tags," Grant said. "I am so worried that something awful has happened to her."

Some bystanders said they saw a man running down the block with the dog - but others say a man pulled up in a car and snatched the pooch.

Grant, 32, and her boyfriend, Nick Hallam, contacted cops and are offering $2,500 for Molly's safe return.

Listen, you're a weasel if you try and renege on the reward.
If they stole the dog or not. They didn't ransom it, nor did they force her in any way to put out a reward. This couple considered their pet to be worth that much to get it back. Period. They (whomever took or found the dog) could have sold/kept -whatever- the dog. They made it worth their while to return it, they made that call by putting out a "reward." And first and foremost they have NO PROOF that they were the ones who stole it. She didn't even see the guys.

That said, I'm very glad you got your dog back and hope this warns others not to leave their pets (especially a pure breed) tied outside. I also think it's horrible that people would steal others pets. :x It's too bad cops can't do more to help, but they really didn't have any evidence it seems.

Alright, I'm reeaaally not in the business of arguing with random strangers but a frenemy showed me this thread and I thought what the hell. For those of you who own dogs and have empathy, I appreciate it. It really helped us stay positive enough to pursue getting her back. For others Putnam Denizen and the like...we gladly paid the cash to get our dog back and put it all together based on a street full of witnesses after exchanging the money. But you weren't there, you don't get it, understood. To each their own. But we lived it, it sucked we did what we had to and it worked. That being said, the way it it all happened and who eventually claimed the reward...thug is still the right word. I have heard all the legal arguments from the cops which sound eerily like your own so please spare me. And for the record, as a black woman, who lives on the south side a block away from what is fondly known as "crack corner aka the Latin Kings headquarters where I have seen these "samaritans" frequent...I draw my own conclusions and I prefer thug to economically- challenged- street pharmacist/ entrepreneuer-who-might be a gang-member.
  • Subject: bravo

u go girl... i dont think they actually realized that you are black an not some prep white girl trying to badmouth some "thugs"... the funny thing is that these poeple are defending these thugs like there were there, or like they themselves fit your thug description. hmmm... maybe your pooch snathers are brooklynian forum members.... hmmmm... i've been following your story in the daily news, and its true, this thing is a trend. and guys are just waiting for those rewards to be offered... thugs...
  • I guess looking back I should've been more understanding of OP's term thug. (Altho you being black is kinda funny - it really did sound like a whitegirl story - me and my racism!) But let me share my main point - which was deleted without notice by some random moderator shortly after it was posted: "But still, what was the OP thinking when she offered a reward of TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS for the return of her dog? And paid TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS to the people she now thinks stole the dog (and I will grant, probably did). Wouldn't TWO THOUSAND (okay I'll stop) $2500 be an outrageous amount of money to offer as a reward? Was she thinking that she wouldn't have to pay that? Obviously if I found someone's dog, I wouldn't demand any payment. Maybe if I were twelve it would be nice to get $20 or $50 as reinforcement of doing the right thing in life. Yet here, knowing there was a chance her dog had been taken (by nefarious thug-types no less!), the OP decided to create a huge incentive for everyone else's dog to be stolen. Thanks a lot lady. In the future the dog which might have been ransomed for $100 or $200 will now cost us all TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS (I couldn't resist). What were you thinking?"

P.S. I am, despite your thoughts, happy you got your dog back. Not as happy as the "thugs" who got TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS for her...

I think you make a legitimate point.
And you make it without calling anybody names, which is what gets a post deleted on this board. Rules linked at the top of every page, go to the Ask Brooklynian board if you want to talk about site stuff more.
(No, I'm not the mod that deleted your other post.)
