Two cute kittens, Mumpus and Grumpus!
I figured it would be easier to post on one thread about the kittens from these 2 posts:

We had an accident on Wednesday morning with Mumpus and my older dog Cheech. Mumpus tried to claw his way up the side of my bed and sunk his claws into Cheech's leg. Cheech was startled and nipped at him, he got Mumps on the cheek. Since Catherine (the owner of the bookstore) is adopting both kittens I know she goes to Hope Vet so I took Mumpus there. He's fine but his little jaw is swollen and they gave him a painkiller and antibiotics. Please don't think Cheech did it on purpose, he's been really good with the kittens. Cheech is a 12 year old arthritic dog though, his arthritis is bad in his hind legs and hips and he was asleep when it happened. Here's a picture from last night:

As for Hope Vet, I am unimpressed and kind of pissed at them. First, the vet who saw Mumpus was good with him but barely glanced at Grumpus, even after making sure Mumpus was ok. I wasn't expecting her to fall all over him but not even a little cuddle? She took Mumps into the back to take blood (she didn't tell me why, other than to say to make sure "everything" was ok). She came back to tell me that they shaved his jaw and he was doing well and was eating. Then she left and I didn't see her again, no goodbye or I'm not coming back. A vet tech brought Mumpus back in, without the pillow case he was wrapped in, so he had to go back to get it. He gave Mumps one of the painkillers and gave me the other one. He also gave me the antibiotics, told me how much to give him and how to do it. NEVER once telling me the antibiotics needed to be refrigerated.
Keep in mind, I was upset and worried about Mumps. It's not like I was there for a routine check up, it was an emergency visit. Every single time my vets have given me any medication that needed to be refrigerated they made sure to tell me when they gave it to me. I looked at the box quickly, saw it was amoxicillin and put it in my bag. I didn't have a chance to give Mumps the antibiotics (my fault), I had to go to work directly afterwards and once I got them home I was exhausted. I looked at the box yesterday morning and when I noticed what it said, I called Hope Vet. I couldn't get through to them so I had to leave them 2 messages. They didn't call until this morning, to tell me that I could pick up a new prescription that I would have to pay for because the label they put on the box said it had to be refrigerated. I called them back to tell them I wouldn't be picking it up and wanted to make sure Catherine would not be charged for it. I'm going to get it from my vet instead.
Anyway, partly my fault but considering the reason I brought Mumps in and that I was upset, I feel it was pretty careless and shitty of them. I would absolutely not go back there, especially after hearing something from my mom about them as well. I know I compare all other vets to mine but I don't think it was unreasonable for me to expect the tech to tell me the antibiotics needed to be refrigerated when he gave them to me.
So, Mumpus is doing just fine, he's been playing with the Grumps. I mix kitten formula with his canned kitten food to make it easier for him to eat. They are both confined at night in a corner of my bedroom that I've blocked off. Wednesday was a long crappy day for all of us, except for Grumpus who was oblivious to everything. Of course, the self-flagellation began immediately, I am a horrible mommy who doesn't deserve to have any pets. It's my thing, I do it when anything bad happens to my babies. Sorry for the long ranty post. Here's another picture to make up for it, this one has boobies!

What in the world are you talking about, doubting your commitment to your animals??
Any older animal with any type of pain in an area would have nipped if clawed while sleeping.
Sometimes you have to address it as.... accidents happen... and that's that.
I must say that Mumpus looks pretty damn comfortable snugggled up.
Animals. Ya gotta love them. -
two things that can't go wrong with guys and girls who like girls.

That's just f*cking crazy-talk, that you're not a good mommy. You're the best! And your kitties and pups are really lucky to have you. Really! Cheech didn't mean anything by it, and the kitties are going to be fine. It looks like they weren't traumatized by the incident. If they'd been left out in the streets, if you hadn't taken them in, fed them constantly, gotten rid of their fleas and other problems, they would likely be dead in an awful way. You've saved them, you've found them a good home, you're loving and caring for them in the meantime... And there are your own cats and dogs who are equally lucky to have you, equally loved and cared for... {{{hugs}}}

I saw these two little love monkeys yesterday. Too cute!

You guys are awesome, thank you so much for making me feel better. I always feel like I sound like I have some crazy martyr complex when I talk about stuff like this. Like I'm looking for someone to tell me that I'm not a bad momma and to stroke me. But I just hate being responsible for any animal's suffering if it was possible for me to prevent it. Of course, the logical part of me realizes that accidents happen and I can't control them. Then there's this whole emotional irrational part of me that refuses to listen to reason!
Anyway, thanks and bunches of hugs! Here's a cute video I took tonight, I was on the phone with a friend when I took it and he's a bit of a talker.

heh. what a patient dog!
And a patient momma, too!

Ha! That dog is awesome.......and the babies are adorable, as usual

M & G went to the vet last week and got a clean bill of health! They are enormous too. Grumples weighed 8 oz on October 6th, he now weighs 3.9 lbs and Mumps only weighs 3.8. I'll be keeping them until after the holidays since they kept running out the door of the bookstore. It's just too busy right now to have someone watch them and teach them to stay away from the door. So, the little devils are mine for the time being.
Look at how little they were!

Of course, my camera mysteriously broke Thanksgiving Eve so I have no pictures of how big they are now. But they're big boys, probably 4 lbs now! -
I have your cat carrier
I'm stealing those kitties 8) -
I wish I can has kittehs...
They are SO CUTE, Caseopele!
(And your dogs are very cute, too.)
You're doing a really good thing. -
Mama, if anyone is stealin' those kittehs it'll be me.

Violet, you have no idea the hardships I have to endure with these 2 devils. Waking up to them beating the crap out of each other 2" from my face. Mumples waking me up by licking my lips and touching my face with his paws. Grumps makin' muffins on his blankie on my lap. Oh wait, I was talking about the hardships, wasn't I? Oops! -
Are these guys from the neighborhood? Mumpus looks like the kitties I picked up from Bergen and Grumpus looks my kitty Gizmo, who's from Bergen as well.
-
Mumps came from Queens or so the story goes. Grumples was tossed out of a car window on Franklin Avenue. Someone saw him and gave him to my super who gave him to me. Poor guy was pretty sick when I got him.
-
Ack! tossed out the window!!! ACK!!! I'm becoming a bigger and bigger people hater...
-
You and me both!
-
-
They got so BIG!

Edited to add: And adorable! -
I had alterior motives in lending Caseo my camera - I wanted to see the babies :-)
-
Dammit! i don't have photoshop anymore and those pics are begging to be LOLCats!
Especially the one where Mumps looks like he's gonna punch someone!
Too cute! -
I love them so much and they fit in perfectly with the rest of the brood. Grumps and Ripley are so in love, they cuddle and Ripley grooms him. Sometimes it looks like Ripley is getting too excited so I break it up and Grumps gives me a look like, "What did you do that for?" My boyfriend calls Mumps the retarded cat since he's always doing silly things. He accosts me when I get my cereal out because he wants the soy milk seal thingy. He picks it up in his mouth and carries it off where it's never seen again!
Oh, and in case anyone was wondering about them finding a home. I'm keeping them! There's no way I could give them up now, I finally accepted it. They're my babies! -

I can see why - they are sooo cute. Considering all they have been through with you I don't think they could leave you. Looks like you have a sweet loving family there! -

You know what I love in all of the pictures? Look at the smiles on all of their faces.
Now that's living.
Doesn't that just make it all worth it in the end? -
I am amazed by them every single day. I remember how tiny they were and how scared I was that I would do something wrong. They are so big and spoiled now, independent only when they want to be. Especially Mumps. Sometimes he acts too "old" to cuddle with mommy then a few hours later he's curled up on my boobs. He still wakes me up some mornings licking my lips and nibbling on my nose. and every night when I go to bed Grumps jumps up on the headboard and stretches out. He dangles his paws over my head and falls asleep. Even my cranky old girl Wednesday has taken a liking to them. I can't imagine my life without them. I'm such a softie!
Howdy, Stranger!
