seems that something is going on over at the vacant/overgrown lot on the corner of 8th ave/10th street; saw a backhoe there yesterday.

anyone know what the story is?

    the church next door sold the lot to developers over the summer. they're getting ready to dig the foundation, i'd say.

    isn't that block part of the "historic" district? (meaning plans have to be submitted, etc)

    Nope, that (west) side of Eighth Avenue isn't landmarked until you get to Third Street. The east side has some addresses landmarked, but others not.

    That is where the church's garden was. I live right around the corner and was sad to see the garden go -- it looked a little overgrown, but there were some nice full-grown trees that just got cut down to make way for the condo.

    It wasn't a "vacant/overgrown lot" it was part of the Church's grounds that has been there for years, although I know it's normal nowadays to think of any space here not being occupied by yup settlements as "vacant" for all intents and purposes. :idea:

    no, actually it was an unkempt lot with some cars inside. and feral cats. nothing to do with yuppiness. and i'd take that lot over some shitty condos any day of the week, but it would have been nice had it been turned into a garden.

    That's sad, it used to be a decent garden. I wonder why the church didn't keep it up.
