The pharmacy here might have the worst service going.

  • Worse than Kings? Is that even possible?

Nah. They've done fast work for me, when needed.
The worst HAS to be the RiteAid on 7th Avenue @ 5th Street.
  • depends on when you go and who you get.

but, for me, they've been good/indifferent to spectacularly helpful/great.

the fact that they can really go above and beyond (like when i need their help to clear up a clerical error by my insurance company that's holding up a refill...) convinces me that i'll never go anywhere else.
  • Remember also that the 7th Avenue store is only a "branch office", with the main store located at 5th Avenue and 9th Street.

It is only when you have a sick infant or toddler and need medication at 4 in the morning that you can really appreciate how wonderful it is to have a 7-day, 24-hour pharmacy (i.e the 5th Avenue store) in the neighborhood.

    No.

Going to Rite Aid's pharmacy on 7th Avenue near 5th Street is like going to hell.

I started going to Neergaard because Rite Aid is so bad.
  • but isn't it cute that park slope still has an independent pharmacy?!!! vive Neergaard!!!!
  • The best independent pharmacy in the area is Slope Drugs on 5th Ave and 6th Street. No they are not opened till midnite every night and they are closed on Sunday BUT if you have your scripts with this pharmacy they will mend every which way to make sure you get what you need and you will be happy with the personal service.

Haha, that was so funny. Wait, no it wasn't.

I really like Palma Chemists, the guys there are wonderful and so helpful. Unlike pretty much everyone I've encountered at both Rite Aids and the CVS on 9th Street. Yay for chain stores with workers that don't give 2 sh*ts about being helpful or polite in the slightest bit!
  • not for nothing, but neergard has actually been around the neighborhood for ages!
mr. neergard lived in that brick house on the corner of 8th ave & 3rd street and was quite a prominent pharmacist (when such a thing existed).
  • Have to agree-the Rite Aid on 7th is the worst all around.

Best independent pharmacy is Health Aid-a block up from Rite Aid. They are great! They will even come to your house and pick up your prescription if you are sick in bed-and then deliver your medicine when it is ready-love them!
  • i walk by it almost every day, but i've never been into the prospect gardens pharmacy (is that what it's called?) on the corner of union and 7th. anybody had any luck with that place? i'm always surprised it's still managed to survive and always think i should go in and buy something, but for whatever reason i had taken a liking, early on to the neergaard down another block or two.

Ditto. I once needed a prescription filled in a hurry, and stopped in there. I've been taking this medication at this dosage for several years (I was just running out quickly). But the pharmacist there positively insisted that it didn't exist in that size.

I used to occasionally get one or two people there who seemed at least reasonably intelligent and capable. When I no longer saw them around (I hope it was because they got promoted, not fired), I went elsewhere. For a while this ment sending prescriptions to Brooklyn Heights for my mother to fill at the Rite Aid there. But they've gone downhill, too.

That said, the Duane Reade on Montague and Clinton has a good, reliable pharmacy. Even if it is closed Sundays.

They're pretty great, the place on the corner of 7th Ave and Union.
I don't have much pharmacy need, but I find they are well stocked for such a tiny drug store.

I like Neergard on Fifth Ave and 10th St, always there for night and weekend prescription needs (the only time that kind of thing comes up in my house)
  • Palma on 7th and Garfield gets my vote for best pharmacy in the Slope. They are super fast and nice.

see, that's great and so rare. and it's open 24 hours. what could be better?
  • If you want a bad pharmacy, go to Rite Aid. Neergaard on 7th Avenue is OK.

I returned to Neergaard yesterday and had another problem-free eperience of clean transactions and clear communication. And don't you dare worry. If Neergaard ever screws up any of my orders, I'll promptly inform you all.
  • Having previously defended Neergard, I will also mention that I personally use Health Aid, which I agree goes the extra mile in personal service. That said, my wife loves Palma.
