The Police on Washington

For the past few nights there have been many uniformed officers standing post on Washington Ave. Anybody know why? did I miss something?

  • When you say many, do you mean many at once, or just that you've been seeing them more often? I know there have been beat cops patrolling Washington much more in the past few weeks, but they're usually just in pairs.
  • Exactly that. But, there are a lot of them. Is there a reason for the patrolling on Washington?
  • An increase in the number of robberies is what brought about all of the cops on foot. There are posts from Flatbush Ave to about Franklin. If there are enough cops there are posts even further east.

All of the cops assigned to patrol (the ones that answer calls over the radio) were put out on foot while specialty units (plainclothes) were put out on patrol. We'll see what happens.
  • Interesting. There is definitely a presence I haven't felt in a long time.
  • Its the holiday season. They offer them more paid details during this time of the year.
  • These are not paid detail assignments. These cops have are on straight time standing on foot posts. I don't think there are any paid detail assignments in the 77.
  • I've always heard that burglaries and muggings increase in the months leading up to Christmas. People feel more pressure at that time to acquire gifts and such, and if they don't have the $$ they will steal it. Or something like that.
