Romantic Birthday Dinner in Park Slope and Beyond?

edited November -1 in Park Slope
Today is my dear husbands 32nd birthday.
I would like to take him somewhere romantic and delicious!
Not Applewood or Palo Santo or Blue Ribbon. We go there often.
Any other great suggestions?
Maybe even Carrol Gardens, Brooklyn Heights etc?

Thanks ALL!!!!!!!!

judging from the price points of what you've listed, I'd recommend:

garden cafe in prospect heights (call NOW for reservations)
river cafe in dumbo (again, call NOW for reservations)
babbo - just sit at the bar.

Thank you for the suggestions. Def trying to stay in Brooklyn tonight.
For some weird reason DH doesnt want to "travel" to Manhattan tonight.

    well, garden cafe is gorgeous.

sorrell, also in prospect heights, could be very nice, as well. but it is cash only which can be a pain in the ass if y'all are wine drinkers and/or low-cash carriers.

also, I LOVE convivium in PS.
  • Saul is great.
  • I recently ate at Frankie's 457 on Carrol St in Carrol Gardens. It was one of the best Italian meals I've had in a long time.

  • Just afew thoughts..
Frankies is just terrific but hard to get in on a Sat. night. the best way to become familiar with this restaurant and its extraordinary menu is take the afternoon off from work on wed and have lunch.

Convivium is a great choice for tonight... they will take a reservation. Sometimes if you go in as a couple you are seated at one of those longer tables... with other people... don't all you private Brooklynite's sgudder!! Even that default seating somehow comes off as a romantic tryst. This is one of my favorite restaurants for couples or a small group.. no more than 6 people.

it's good but not that good. and price-wise, I'd rather hit up lupa or babbo. but I'm a batali whore. if a restaurant is in the same price-point, I'm not in. if I want interesting italian in brooklyn, I'm hitting up the specials at beast or franny's pastas.
  • No thank you for Frankies!
I have major beef with that place.
I had my wedding lunch there in July (after eating there many many times) and the service was just awful and its expensive for what it is, which is average Italian food at best.
We dropped almost a thousand dollars on that lunch and they knew it was our wedding lunch (on a Friday afternoon) and they treated us horribly!
I will never go there again.

Also, horrible + disgusting service and wait at Moim on 7th and Garfield.
1 and a half hour wait (with a ressie) and not even a free drink. Our waiter bought our salad out after the main course. We told him to take it back and he literally gave it to the couple seated next to us for free, instead of apoligizing to us and comping US the damn salad! SO RUDE!
  • My experience was different. Myself, my wife and two friends went there last Sunday. We had no trouble getting a table for four, we had great service, and all of the food we had was excellent - especially the two specials we tried, homemade spaghetti with porcini mushrooms and pumpkin ravioli with parmesan. The dessert was not as good as the appetizers and entrees, but everything was incredibly good and the prices were great - in the neighborhood of 13$ for the "special" entrees. We all loved it, and will be going back again soon.
  • so suprised to hear about your experience at moim.

i love that place and have had a few really excellent meals there. i've taken some korean people there as well, and they commented and raved that they thought it was one of the finest korean places they have eaten in new york.
  • As a huge fan of Korean food in general, I was very excited to try Moim.
Unfortunately our experience was so horrible that I will not be going back there. Its a shame. The food that we did have was good. I could not get over the wait + horrible service. For Korean I will always love love love Do Hwa on Carmine + Bedford in Manhattan.

Still not sure what to do for dinner tonight.

PS Anyone been to Lure on Prince + Mercer? Its fabulous for both lunch and dinner. Could only get a 6pm ressie for tonight so had to cancel.
  • Yes, been to Lure. I prefer what it used to be - Canteen. They had some seriously good mac-n-cheese.
  • yes canteen was amazing
    i agree
i think the service there is great and the lobster roll is one of the best i have ever had!
  • Perhaps it is too late to make a suggestion...

    Noodle Pudding
    38 Henry St
    Brooklyn, NY 11201-1338
    Phone: (718) 625-3737
  • what is noodle pudding all about?
    for next time....?
  • It is an oasis in the North Brooklyn Heights desert. :-)

More seriously, I had several great experiences there. Check out the reviews...
