stfu, chavez - king of spain tells chavez to shut it.

My friends from Madrid sent this to me yesterday.
Good for them - he wouldn't STFU -
I respect what Chavez is trying to do politically, but the guy really needs to learn tact and diplomacy! The heightened rhetoric and hyperbole does not help him at all!
If Venezuela ends up politically isolated, it will be less because of Chavez's policies and more because no one wants to deal with such a rude SOB. -
That was funny. How many times have I wanted to do that at a meeting!

It's always good to be King!
Hugo suffers from Castroitis - an uncontrollable urge to speak for 8 hours straight without thinking. Eventually he pisses everyone off - even if he may be right. -
Haaaaaa! Amusing. I was talking to guy that had dinner with him like a year ago, said ol' Chav was very charismatic but quite possibly out of his gourd. Not quite handsome and Jeebus-looking enough to be t-shirt material though, even if he would cooperate and wear a beret now and then...

perhaps someone who knows spanish could offer a general description of the conversation. chavez is certainly given to rhetorical excess (sometimes effective, sometimes not), but spain does have a history of fascism. it's hard to know whether chavez was out of line without a bit more information.

It was more like he wasn't letting the first speaker finish his thought. Chavez wanted to make a point without letting the guy finish. I know spanish and personally I just found it funny purely on the fact that Chavez's impatience pissed the King off to the point for him to lean over and say "Will you shut up already" -basically.
I won't go into politics here. I'll let it go that it was funny no matter who would have done it. -
also, the point made by the woman speaking at the end was that each 'group' was to have a time to speak without interruption, and chavez had already had his turn. he was given a lot of leeway and then just shut down. hilarious.

oh, and don't get me wrong - while I'm virulently anti-Castro, I don't believe in what the US govt has done to Cuba. Chavez is an interesting guy. the problem is that he is insane and suffers from diarrhea of the mouth. he is incredibly good, far better than Castro, frankly, at figuring out how to really piss off someone and still get them in their own backyard (calling Bush the devil and undercutting home heating oil prices in NYC's black and hispanic communities? awesome). problem is, he's still a lunatic and a lot of his populous is pissed off with him.
I'm going to Ecuador at the end of December and I can't wait to hear the local chatter about Chavez, Castro, Bush, and all the rest of the asshats that both amuse us and make our lives miserable. oh, and I can't wait to pick up some dirt cheap alpaca yarn. PM me if you want some, or whatever else. no, I'm not bringing you a guinea pig - cooked or not. -
