IF no one thought some sort of anonymity was needed,
we wouldnt have screen names.
we would all just post our real name ,home address,
and cell phone in our profile.
the person seemed to understand and appreciate that i was just trying to
let them know they had dropped their virtual wallet.
thats all that matters to me. -

I know it's hard to believe, my my real name actually is Kosherdave
we wouldnt have screen names.

It's French. -
And I know for a fact that you really are Bruce Ratner's love child.

It is hard to believe.....
That it is French... -

But screen names are fun... brings me back to the good old BBS days. My 1st name was "Sindy", I was 14. Now I understand why the 40-50 year-old-dudes would flirt with me. Thankfully I had (and still do) have some common sense and didn't meet them at the mall or something.
we wouldnt have screen names.
My two-cents are that if the person really gave a shit about their privacy, they wouldn't be on the internet *ever*. Or even post on this site. -
My first screen name was "FoolonH105." I was 13 and I wanted "FoolonHill," a Beatles reference which, I believed at the time, would identify me as cool to other cool AOL users. But some jerk had already taken FoolonHill! And I accepted AOL's lame alternative suggestion. It helped me make my first online friend, a fellow Beatles fan named Sivacrom. But weirdly, Sivacrom was 19 and in Louisiana. I sometimes think that's creepy - why talk to a 13 year old in Hartford? Other times, I think the internet was so empty back them (as, apparently, was Sivacrom's social life) that you kind of just befriended anyone you could. I sometimes wonder what happened to him...and what "Sivacrom" meant.

I agree. I can't imagine why some people see it as this big "DUN DUN DUHHHHHN!!!" moment if you realize who someone is, I mean it's not like we all don't live in pretty darn close proximity to each other. Who cares, and why give it so much thought?
Anyway, with all the DH happy hours, a LOT of us know who each other are, and have hung out on occasion. Like I said, I did not know it was such a big deal. 8)

Garfunky wrote: k, so someone on this board in various seperate threads has managed to provide enough for me to absolutely KNOW who they are as i pass them on the street. ( i wasnt trying to play "clue", was just that obvious)
Dude, chill. I know you know. It's OK man, really. It's all good. Let's all take a deep breath now and relax.
despite what 2 people may say, i am actually a pretty nice guy.
SO my question is , do i inform said person via im , in person or not at all ?
i have no "interest" in this person nor bear any malice.
indeed i dont think weve even interacted here.
Just trying to figure out the best way if at all to inform this person that they are giving away theyre identity, without completely scaring the bejeezzus out of them,or coming off the wrong way. -

if someone dropped a wallet on the street you would tell them.( i hope)
its only weird cuz its a bulletin board.
Considering i communicated with the person 10 days ago
(and they appreciated it), ive been relaxed.
one of situations where i know i did the right thing,
so other people opinions no longer have any bearing.

I'd keep it, especially if it contained a lot of money and a photo I.D. that would get me into bars.

Without mentioning any names, will you please tell us all what the heck happened? Did a local school teaher confess that he hates children online and pretend to love children offline? Or does this involve the Food Co-op Committee member who was seen shopping twice at Back to the Land? -
All right! It's me! Garfunky was nice enough to let me know that he figured out who I was. He just wanted to make sure that I was aware of it. I haven't made a point of hiding where I work due to the cat and kitten rescues/fosters. I thought it was a very kind gesture and took it in the spirit in which it was intended. Like I said in a previous post, Brooklynian isn't as "snarky and mean-spirited" as some people think. It's nice to see someone care about a neighbor these days, even a virtual one. Thanks Garfunky!

End of this thread I would declare.. with a very HAPPY ending.

Damn...I was still secretly hoping it was me :-)
Garfunky - if we knew it was Caseopele, we could have told you she'd be cool with it. I go in to visit her all the time....and the fact that I'm a wino is a mere coincidence :-) -

LOL 8) aw shucks
@caseopele - your welcome. as long as youre aware of it.
maybe some of you havent noticed how some posters here basically think its ok to slander libel and harass others. or at least used to....
and i dont think that just because its the park slope board makes it suddenly exempt from ad bots spyware pedophiles and ill do-ers of all sort. nor is park slope immune to identity thieves.
im not telling others HOW to live,
just making sure a female realized she was exposed. -
ps - how is it that everyone is suddenly bruce ratners love child ?

I belive it is an automatic title depending on how many posts you have on the site. If I am wrong I am sure someone elese with clarify it. It has no political or social leaning meaning!!

ah, i thought everyone was editing their profile

(on some boards one can edit that area) -

So what this really means Garfunky is that if you keep posting here one day you will grow up to be Bruce's love child, too!~

kosherdave wrote: Wow, are we supposed to be keeping our identities hidden (like some super hero club or somethin?). I didn't know that. I've my pic posted, don't care when people say "Hi, I've seen you on the DH/PH board I'm so adn so". I think my incredibly dorky trademark sunglasses are usually the giveaway. Besides, I feel kinda like a rock star when people recognize me.
You know, I was wondering if that was really you. I mean, most folks (myself included) don't ever post thier pic on these sorts of forums. Although I suppose it's not much different than putting up photos on MySpace, the hotbed of creepy narcissism.
That being said, I dig the sunglasses and I will exercise my right to say so next time I see you on the street.

Here's a Facebook group that explains what Beacon is and why it's bad for your privacy:

Here's how to block Facebook Beacon, if you use Firefox -- it's not too difficult:
