What makes Peggy Aguayo the Park Slope spokeswoman?
Every time I read an article about how wonderful, (i.e. expensive) PS is, she is quoted. Yes, she's lived here as long as some of us, longer than others....but if she LOVES this neighborhood you'd think she'd support it. I know she does all her shopping online. I know more than I want to know about her. Ask any store owner if she's ever come in to buy a gift, a book, anything---and if they know her, they'll nod their head no.
If she thinks this is such a great place to live, she oughta put her money where her big fat mouth is and start shopping local. Lord knows she can afford it.
(I wrote this after seeing their new billboard on 4th Ave advertising some new $$$ condos.)

actually, i thought it was louise crawford...
ok, seriously. i don't know why they use her all the time, but thinking she should shop local all the time when shopping local all the time in this neighborhood would make you broke--the woman got rich for a reason, because she saved her $$.
i think you're asking too much. -
How 'bout a rephrase of the original question: now that she's managed to get rich, why doesn't she spend some of her money in local stores? Not that she has to do all of her shopping locally (I don't), but enough to give her some street cred: if indeed she does all of her shopping online, she really lacks street cred and should keep her trap shut (IMHO).
-
i'm curious...are you stalking this woman??
how exactly do you know where she spends her money?
seems odd to me to be so intimately aware of someone else's shopping habits. -
Louise Crawford is an honest regular woman who writes a blog. If she gets rich--good for her!. She actually not only shops local, but literally scours the hood for the PS 100 etc... She loves this hood, and writes about it from the heart--like it or not.
Peggy did not earnestly save her money! :money: She is a real estate salesperson who got rich from selling (at this point, crappy condos) in PS.
Whatever I meant to say will always get twisted here--but basically, for someone who proclaims themselves a PS booster, she ought to boost PS businesses with her $$. And yes, darlings, of course she can afford it.
How I hate the work "stalker." Boring, overused, stupid, trite.
No I am not "stalking" anyone, but if you live here long enough, you get to know your neighbors. And she is one of mine. -
i guess i just don't see how you can criticize someone for not being a "ps booster" while you come on here and trash one of your fellow ps neighbors.
some people might be watching your every move also...would you like it if they posted nasty things about you on here?
and btw, you are not the authority on what is and what is not an acceptable profession. making a living selling real estate (no, that is not what i do) is perfectly respectable.
your use of calling people "darlings" is too condesending for words.
if you truly want to be a "ps booster" how about you stop judging your neighbors and accept the fact that she lives here, facilitates a dream for many people to become homeowners, and has the right to shop wherever she pleases. -
Did I ever claim to be a PS booster? No. Has she? Yes. Is real estate a job that i like/dislike more than others? Never thought about it.
Point that is never as important as the b.s. that follows it was thus:
She is ALWAYS quoted in every paper as a PS authority. Which she is. I say, put your money where your mouth is. "Support" your hood.
Do I try to sell people on how great PS is? I likes what I likes, and I don't like what I don't like, and that's the point of being anon here.
See ya at Patio! It rules! -

Not for nothing, I never noticed her as a quoted source anywhere. When I saw this thread, the only association I had was a memory of her and Rita Knox splitting as real estate partners.

Maybe I'll see her on every scrap of paper now, who knows?
Louise on the other hand . . .

Actually yes I see Peggy quoted all the time and believe she is a major source of knowledge for Brooklyn real estate. She has been in the neighborhood for over 30 years and helped pioneer the renaissance of 5th Avenue and Park Slope in general. I don't know what your argument about shopping is, I see her all the time shopping in the Slope. I only know her because she sold our home, but she is a lovely woman. How would you know if she shops online? This is a very strange post indeed, stinks of a poor attempt at slander.

Subject: Spokesperson?
I thought Peggy Aguayo lived in either Clinton Hill or Fort Green. Does anyone know? This might explain her not patronizing the shops of Park Slope.
As far as being an expert in the media: this happens all the time -- one person is interviewed and then the media lemmings come along and keep calling the same person.
I don't think you could blame her for being interviewed and, as someone else pointed out, she has been around for a long time. I much prefer an old-timer being an expert than somebody who just moved in last year!
Howdy, Stranger!
