anyone know where to catch an underground rock/music show? — Brooklynian

anyone know where to catch an underground rock/music show?

something in a bar, club, art space, someone's house, etc.? i live across from the nay yard and it seems to be a total dead zone. nothing but the navy bar which is fun a couple times but not really a place to hang out or visit on a regular basis. any ideas? it seems like with pratt around there should be something...

  • dunno about the FG/CH area really when it comes to that (though i should find out, moving there in two weeks). if you head down to South Paw in Park Slope there's usually somebody playing. Great little club too.
  • check out toddpnyc.com

he books a variety of odd bands in a variety of odd spaces (sometimes even in the courtyard of pratt!) but to date there haven't been many performance spaces in the FG/CH area itself. but new spots pop up all the time.

one place that often has stuff going on but has remained painfully under the radar is Sputnik. it's a bi-level bar with a small stage in the basement. drinks could be cheaper, but i always say that.

sputnik is on taffe at dekalb:

  • Ohmyrockness.com usually has a good list of shows all over (heavy on the indie rock side though). They even have the new option of following venues and artists getting alerted when they have new shows.
  • there are a million places to check out stuff like that...esp. if you will go into the city. it sounds like you might be down with parts of williamsburg. i really like rose live music at 345 grand, they sometimes have dope stuff. for arts check out chelsea or i guess there are a bunch of good galleries in williamsburg. it all depends on what kindof each you're into.

you could join the nonsense nyc list. [email protected] it has lots of stuff to do. check the village voice also. i dunno, i assume you want stuff in that area to do so this is totally useless.... if you're more specific i could help more. nonsense talks about stuff at rubulad that is on flushing, i've never been to anything but t might be up your alley.
