New Restaurant - Franklin Ave, between Sterling n St Johns
Walked past a new restaurant that is prepping for an open on Sat. Dec 1. I talked to one of the owners. The place looks upscale for Franklin, nice wood/glass doors, large space. The food is southern and will include authentic bbq. He gave me a flyer for the opening nite (which I cannot find). Its a dance party $10/cover R&B. He said they did not want the hip/hop crowd, but the older/professional crowd from the 'nabe.
Do your thing and support local restaurants. Check the place out after Dec. 1.
ps - not sure if this should go on the PHeights board or this one. More exposure the better.

Most restaurants do, but I doubt we can find that out about this one before it's even open! -

i just hope that all of those drug dealers and thugs that watch us go and come from work arent allowed in. think of sitting and drinking with them. -

-

It's walking home drunk at 2am unscathed that's the true test of a neighborhood's safe-icity (I made that last word up). -
Doesn't seem to be open yet.

i saw people inside yesterday, but i couldn't tell if they were eating or just drinking.

Subject: New Restaurant
Name of Restaurant is 95 South. I stopped by, the menu is basic pub food - about 20 items. 6 entrees - burgers, chicken, Ribs etc, some apps and salads. Prices ranged from $6-12 (if I remember correctly). Mellow vibe, 2 tv's with the game on. The owner was at the bar and seemed friendly enough.
They serve food until 11:30 weeknites, until 2:30am on Weekends. -
this is between lincoln and st johns, not sterling and st. johns

ate there the other night
the catfish (broiled) was excellent
a friend of mine who had the fried shrimp that night went bsck for the catfish and it was excellent again
as far as a hang goes
i am not a sports bar type of girl
but as long as the food is good
i'll go back
(and this is an establishment that has its roots in the 'hood) -

Because obviously black people only like hip hop? I think it is pretty clear that the intent is not to exclude black people. Just the ones that don't like R&B.

the owner is black and his family has lived in the neighborhood for years,
i hardly think that's the case -
Let me translate for you...
Hip-Hop crowd: Hot 97 listeners, 18-25 year olds
Older/Professional crowd: WBLS & KISS listeners, especially those that enjoy Hal Jackson on Sundays 35+
Its not a racist thing, its an ageist thing. -
i think it's a "no punks" (in the broadest sense of the word) thing
