Laundry mat in South Slope? — Brooklynian

Laundry mat in South Slope?

edited November -1 in Park Slope
I just moved to the nabe around 7th and 16th and cannot seem to find the clean little laundry mat I remember from a few years ago around 7th and 15th. I think it turned into a laundry service only. So I have been hauling my cart to and from 4th Ave and 18th street. Clean Rite, I think. It's clean, huge, fine, 24 hours, uses cash on cards instead of quarters. But man, walking back up the hill with that cart isn't so fun.

Does anyone know of a closer place that is similarly great? Thanks for any suggestions!

    Try 8th ave & 16th or PPW off 16th
  • Ever since I found laundry.bz (through this site, I might add) I will never schlep my bags of dirty clothes to a laundromat again. A little more pricey than do-it-yourself, but totally worth it.
  • We must be neighbors... I'm in the same area.

I go to the place next to Parko... on 7th and like 14th.

I wrote a post on this subject before. It took me a while to find a place that I liked and was willing to go back to. I use laundry.bz or the one at 7th and 14th (appears to be called "Laundry"). Not the newest machines but friendly, relatively clean and honest. Avoid the place at between Prospect and 16th on 7th. The dryers are ancient and badly maintained. They can and will destroy your clothing. The place on 6th avenue between 16th and 15th are thieves and the place is really small. The woman who runs the place on 5th and 15th next to the parking lot (soon to be home for the homeless) is a real b*tch.
  • Hey, I like the woman on 5th and 15th next to the parking lot. They do fast, cheap and decent dry-cleaning too. There's one dude who comes in and I swear must be smoking an invisible cigar, because he emits an incredible odor, but he's not always around. It's better than the dog fur-filled washing machines in my building's basement, anyway. Plus safe to abandon your clothing in as long as you keep it moving along.
  • Yes, the two on 7th at 14th and 16th aren't great. Has anyone tried the one mentioned on PPW or 8th and 16th? Thanks! Or, if you live right there and want to invite me over to your basement....... just kidding!
  • the one on 9th b/t 6th and 5th is great - across from Steve's. The one on 6th and 10th is ok but not great - the male 1/2 of the owners is VERY crabby - they've lost things of mine in the past and clammed up when it comes to an explanation - how does one lose SHEETS?

The nasty rude one who lost my dry cleaning and blamed me for it and then refused to give me my money back for a broken drier, again blaming me?

The one on 4th Avenue and 18th is VERY clean and all of the equipment is brand new. They use those cards and do not refund if there is any left over, so we are always careful about how much we put on the card. They have a parking lot so it's good if you have a car.
  • So four months later, I finally ventured away from Clean Rite on 4th and 18th out of sheer laziness. I went across the street to the Russian lady's place on 7th and Windsor. Oh lord. It was awful. The woman gave me the stare down like "HOW DARE YOU COME IN HERE......" it was intimidating. I tried to smile and go about my business, but she kept glaring at me. I spent most of my laundry hour outside, reading, standing up since there's no bench. When I was inside waiting for my dryer to finish I started looking around and realized how disgusting that place is. Depressing, dirty, old...... the equivalent of a lonely single woman at 45 with seventeen cats. I'm not going back.

Yes, Welcome to my world. I suspect that those horrible Russian places with those horrible women are a money laundering front. I can't even imagine who they think that they are kidding with those horrid driers with holes in them patched up with rubber. They actually managed to BURN some of our clothing.
  • Ha! Thanks for the laugh! So you think it's all about dirty money huh? Ha!
  • A little out of the way, but the place on 5th Avenue and 22nd St is good - the owners are super nice.
