whats good cheap takeout/pizza joints in the north slope?

Dean St. Grill -jerk chicken, cabbage, ask for some of the green salsa stuff, deliciously greasy ox tail! Very garlicky knots
Stir It UP on Atlantic
City Sub on Bergen-Meatball or pastrami (both hot with all the toppings)
Pizza & Basil -grandma slice, eggplant, etc..
7th ave: Roma or Pinos LA Forchetta Pizzeria
More towards center slope: 5th ave Chip Chop, Tacos Nuevo Mexico
total cheap eats of course -
roma is quite tasty...
franny's is really good too. not sure if they do take out or delivery but the pizza is darn good.
two boots isn't bad either. -
Albaz
Carneviento (technically not the Slope, but across the street from it)
Antonio's
Joe's
I definitely second Mamacita on City Sub.
Franny's is great, but it's not cheap (nor is it technically in Park Slope). -
We like Roma's pizza and their food.
Anthony's up on 7th near 15th? Street or so also has great pizza-but, i would pick up from them and not have them deliver. Their food tends to be cold when delivered. -
Taqueria and Lemongrass Grill, both on 7th near Lincoln.
-
for other non-pizza related places, i like:
mr. wonton: chinese
oshima: sushi
oaxacan: chiles and chocolate
wish we had another thai option in the north slope. i'm not a fan of lemongrass grill at all. anyone know of any others in the area? -
Roma definitely. Their Grandma pizza is deeeeelicious.
Olive Vine is good, cheap Med.
Pita Pan does good falafel, wrapped in tortilla (no idea why they use 'Pita' in their name, I guess Tortilla Pan doesn't really roll of the tongue)
Christie's (Flatbush and 7th Ave) jamaican veggie patties and coco bread are v. good. -
what brings armchair to one locale for a couple months?

The great cheap big meal is a sandwich from the Italian pork store on Fifth Ave and Garfield, a couple doors up from Bonnie's. They are big, they are delicious, they are around $7 each. It's two meals for regular mortals.
And of course Bonnie's.
And the soup/tamale place at 4th Ave (10/11th St), if you're mobile. -
I don't understand the attraction to Bonnie's. We went there over the summer after reading raves here about their burgers (I lurked for a loooong time before singing up-LOL). And, I found the burgers very so-so and the place in general on the dirty side (the floor was gross).
How about Tempo presto on 5th there? They make really good, filling sandwiches for $7 to $8. -
I'll second Bonnies for Burgers (done Medium, never ask for medium well!) Wings & crack-a-licious fries.
-
I can't believe.. no, wait, actually I can.. that no one mentioned Grand Canyon on 7th Ave b/w 1st and 2nd - their cheeseburger deluxe is off the METER. A straight slab with fat fries, extra toppings, pickles, and cheap too. The staff are really nice people. It's been there for decades.
However, their business is run with zero pretentiousness, making it a dying breed on 7th Ave. Not to mention the reasonable prices.
They should follow the example of "Dizzy's" on 9th St. and 8th Ave - take a regular old diner (Benny's old luncheonette), change the name to something 'zany' (), triple the prices, and VOILA! - instant devoted yup following. After that, all it takes is one "Buscemi Sighting" and the place will be packed around the clock.
Not sure if Grand Canyon owns their bldg, but I hope they do. Otherwise I would say they're on borrowed time.

I think the place on 4th and 11th no longer has tamales, just soup.
I was underwhelmed by the Grand Canyon burger, but they do a nice breakfast. -
Grand Canyon's burgers haven't been good for years. We used to love them and order from there all the time. We got burgers from them about a month ago and gross, tasteless, never again. I had a burger from them over the summer and experienced the same thing and tried again because I had such fond memories of good burgers.
no more burgers from them! But, yeah, the breakfasts are good. -

what? since when?? -
I've lived here 10+ years and never noticed Grand Canyon. What does it look like? What is it next to?

Well I had one on Sat. night, and thought it was excellent.. don't know what makes one a 'cheeseburger connoisseur', but I lived in Omaha, NE for 2 years, home to the country's best beef, and I think that Grand Canyon's burgers could hang there. 8)
no more burgers from them! But, yeah, the breakfasts are good.
But then again, as they say, "There's no accounting for taste." I would invite Armchair to try for himself. The turkey club is good too.
Then again, I have no faith in Park Slope's taste in sandwiches ever since Charcutterie on Flatbush shut down due to no business. $5 for two inches of toasted pastrami, sauerkraut, and munster on a fresh kaiser, gee I think I'll go to Subway instead  Way to go, Park Slope.
BTW, best pizza in the Slope - Pino's or Smiley's, hands down. I won't even mention Antonio's on Flatbush  - I like my pizza made by Italians thank you.
Best Jamaican beef patties - Little Miss Muffin bakery on Park Pl. and Carlton. Christie's is for tourists.
Best 'faux-latin' food - Bogota on 5th and St. Johns - one of the few yup-flavored joints I will enter b/c the owners are a couple of kids from Brooklyn.
Best sushi - Taro or Gen (If you catch Gen on a fresh day), both Japanese run of course (no thanks Yamato)
Will post more if they come to mind. -

An average dinner at Oshima costs around $25.00, which does not qualify as "cheap" on my budget.
mr. wonton: chinese
oshima: sushi
oaxacan: chiles and chocolate

I thought the reason they closed was because they lost their space -- maybe someone can chime in if they have more info. But Restless Native, the old owners of Charcuterie now own Mitchell's on Flatbush, and to my understanding they have a similar takeout sandwich menu there now (I've only done the sit-down meals there, which doesn't seem to include the sandwiches). So maybe you can get one of those pastrami sandwiches you've been missing after all.

I am partial to Press 195 o 5th. The sun-dried tomatoes, fontina cheese and artichoke is dee-lish. Making me hungry just typing it.
Pino's makes good pizza. Further south, I'm into Joe's (on 5th, the one on 7th is not bad) and Lenny's.
Chip Shop mac-n-cheese hits the spot -

You like your pastrami with sauerkraut and muenster on a kaiser roll, and you call yourself a "native"?
-
if you are spending 25 bucks at oshima for one person, you are a hearty eater for sure.
their noodle soups are HUGE and $10.
rolls are mainly $3-7
seared tuna special is $10
i highly recommend the oshima salad. it's 7$ i believe.
lunch specials are $8.
i guess we all have our own idea of cheap though. -

You didn't really write that Smileys has the best pizza, did you? That's one of the worst pizza joints in the Slope. -

While not in PS, hands-down best pizza is Sam's on Court Street. Now that's a real old school Brooklyn vibe place. Their spaghetti and meatballs are fantastic to! -
my picks for cheap eats would be mr. wonton, roma, oshima and bonnie's.
I got really sick twice from la taqueria so i haven't been back since.
It's kind of a shame since they are around the corner from my apt and their food always tasted yummy. -
I vote for Roma. While Pino's is a lot closer to me I don't mind walking the extra blocks.

I've got to disagree. Roma is the worst pizza on that stretch of 7th Ave. For North Slope, you're better off with Joe's or Antonio's. And Antonio's grandma slice is actually good, not even just good for Park Slope. -

Best plain slice: Joe's on 5th (betw 12 & 11)
Most underrated plain slice: La Bruschetta on 7th (betw 6 & 5) -
i ADORE roma's pizza!
guess pizza is a very personal thing. -
ive been really happy with the new pizza place on 4th ave and union, right outside the R train station. it's called tomato and basil. in fact, id go so far as to say that it's the best pizza in the neighborhood.
Howdy, Stranger!
