South Slope to GCT - Best route?

I live a block from the 7th ave F stop. Any opinions on the best route to and from Grand Central? I may have to start a Metro-North reverse commute soon.

F train to 42nd/Bryant Park - walk east a bit, and you're there.

On the way home, it's easier. Take the 6 to B'way/Lafayette and transfer there to the F.

Unfortunately, this transfer doesn't work the same way, and you have to exit the subway, go outside, cross the street, re-enter (and pay again if you are using a Metro Card with a fixed amount as opposed to monthly/weekly pass) and catch the 6. Truly stupid, and by then I'd rather walk a few blocks/avenues

You can also transfer to the 7 train at 42nd Street (walk down the tunnel between the 6th Avenue line the 7 train) and that could save you a couple of minutes on your walk. You can come up right into Grand Central.

Hmmm.. true about the 6 to the F going home. Guess that's not so bad. About transferring to the 7 - you have to walk through that underground tunnel from 6th to 5th which is almost half the way to the GCT! I'm thinking at that point it's maybe better to do Flexi's idea and just walk it. Guess I gotta also take into account time efficency verses laziness.

What about factoring a bus in somehow? Maybe a bus somehow to one of the 4-5 stops in Bklyn then straight to GCT? Don't know what the traffic is like in the morning. ahhhh choices choices.

I work above GCT and do that trip daily.

Coming home is easy as previously noted, you take the 6 to Bleeker and
transfer downstairs at Broadway-Lafayette to the F.

Going to work, I usually stay on the F to 42nd St as most time I have a seat,
then change to the 7 for the one stop to GCT.

If I am in a rush, I take the F to Jay St, if there is an A or C there I switch to that for the two stops to Broadway/Nassau then go upstairs which is called Fulton St and transfer to the 4 or 5 to 42nd St. You can shave off about 8-10 minutes if the A or C is there. The 4 and 5 run frequently.

One more vote for the F -> A/C -> 4/5 solution, if you're in a hurry. Involves a bit of tunneling, but you'll definitely save time.

During non-rush hours, if you time it right, I think the B67 to Atlantic Ave 4/5 stop could also be a quick solution. But during AM rush hour... not sure how badly the B67 gets caught in Flatbush Ave traffic.
